The Last Story May Signal Sakaguchi's Retirement

Hironobu Sakaguchi is a legend in his own right, and in many gamers’ minds. He is the father of the Final Fantasy series, and the creator of many other beloved RPGs over the last few years, such as Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and, lately, The Last Story. Yesterday Sakaguchi blogged on Mistwalker’s site about how proud he was of his team’s progress on The Last Story, and how they are pouring the hearts and souls into his upcoming Wii RPG.

“Me and my team poured 120% of our energy into this title. I am completely pouring everything into this one, there is a strong feeling this may be my last work.”

If this is indeed his last work, the title fits, wouldn’t you say? Of course, that’s what was said about Final Fantasy 20 years ago, too. Needless to say, if his retirement is near, the gaming world will lose a great creative mind.
