The upcoming weekend will be a hot one for Champions Online players.  Logging in between Friday, June 17 and Monday, June 20 will grant three cash shop items for free: Triumphant Recovery, Heroic Comeback and Team XP (two recovery items and a 20% XP boost for four hours). In addition to the freebies during the whole weekend the Demonflame adventure pack (normally available only to gold members or for purchase in the cash shop) will be enjoyable by everyone for free.

Champions Online had a definitely rocky start, but has since become a very solid MMORPG to play, especially for fans of superhero comics. The Aftershock “comic series” (a series of cinematic story-driven questlines) currently released once a week is receiving a lot of favorable feedback from the player base, and players with a silver (free) account will now enjoy it even more since the story ties-in with Demonflame.

In addition to this, the recent acquisition of Cryptic by Perfect World Entertainment and the fact that the game is now featured on Steam in their new Free to Play line-up (which is bringing a very healthy influx of new players), seem to paint a quite bright future for Champion Online. Looks like those that painted Cryptic’s MMORPG as an irredeemable failure were quite wrong, after all.
