In mere minutes (here in the East Coast anyway), Batman: Arkham City is going to be available for the public to purchase. Here in New York though, some fans were treated to, not only copies of the game earlier than everyone else, but autographs and goodies for doing so. Not too shabby, especially on a beautiful autumn day that never hit below 70. Toys “R” Us in Times Square played host to this momentous event, and the line was filled with anxious Batman fans ready to pick up one of this holiday’s most anticipated titles.
First on line for the game today was Kevin Berlioz. After waiting about 3 hours, this Westchester, New York native got to purchase this title, take home a bag of swag that included a Batman figurine, and take Batman: Arkham City home to play before anyone else. Berlioz told DualShockers that he didn’t have much else to do on this Monday, so he might as well spend it celebrating Batman in the city.
Not only were fans who waited treated to early copies of games, they were also able to have their games signed by some of the biggest names involved with Batman: Arkham City. At hand were Jim Lee, artist and co-publisher at DC Entertainment, Sefton Hill, game director at Rocksteady Studios, and Kevin Conroy, legendary voice of Batman. Conroy shared with DualShockers that he isn’t that big of a gamer, but said that when he plays the new Batman: Arkham games, he does find it a bit weird compared to when hearing himself in some of the cartoons and the animated series. He said that something about the involvement and interaction of videogames makes it a totally different experience.
It’s safe to say that fans went home happy today, and that fans tomorrow will also find themselves happy with what is looking like a very good game for the end of 2011. Jamie Walker, studio director at Rocksteady, said that there is so much more that has not yet been announced. He told DualShockers that fans should know that “announcements are coming.” I don’t know about you, but “my spidey senses are tingling.” That’s right, right?
