About a month ago we reported about the upcoming Power Rangers Online side-scroller action MMORPG, to be launched in Korea by Ntreev.
The game has been officially presented Friday at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul and is now headed towards the first closed beta phase (in Korea), that will start on November the 3rd and end on Novembr the 9th. Only 5,000 people will be allowed access. The Official site has also been updated.
Power Rangers Online will be mostly based on the 2005 Japanese series Mahou Sentai Magiranger, that is the most popular in Korea, and that reached the western shores in 2006 as Power Rangers Mystic Force .
Players will be able to create their own characters and then chose the “color” of their ranger between red, blue, pink, yellow and green (yellow and blue won’t be available in the beta). The color will also determine the class of the character and it’s powers.
Act 1 and 2 of the main quest, with seven stages each and fourteen bosses will be, playable in the beta. The game will feature 3D side-scrolling action and large bosses, alongside some of the classic enemies of the series. Story sequences will be presented in Manhwa (Korean comics, often similar to Japanese Manga) comic book style.
The rangers will also be able to wear something else than the iconic (but cheesy) jumpsuits, and will gain access to new (still cheesy!) armor as they level up (as you can see in the gallery below, in a picture from the official presentation showing the armored look, courtesy of ZDnet Korea).
Below you can see the first official trailer of the game and a gallery featuring screenshots, artwork (in a lovely Manhwa style) and renders of some of the enemies and of the rangers. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see this game get an English localization sooner or later.
UPDATE: I added at the bottom a TV broadcasting (in Korean) of the presentation of the game that happened last friday, courtesy of newscj.com. It includes some additional gameplay footage.
