This week’s issue of Shonen Jump details some of the story elements of upcoming MMORPG Dragon Quest X, slated for release on the Wii and Wii U in 2012.
The latest installment in the Dragon Quest series begins with two orphaned siblings living in a village called Etene. These two are known to cause trouble but lead an otherwise quiet and peaceful existence, as their town is separated from the rest of the world. Players will create both siblings in the game’s character creation system, but will only be able to play as one. Players start the game in human form, but as the game progresses you are given the opportunity to play as one of five non-human tribes. The cause of this switch to non-human characters is still unknown.
Etene Village also contains residents designed specially by series designed Akira Toriyama, including foul-mouthed shrine maiden Aba and her calmer grandson, Shini.
The beta for Dragon Quest X will begin in February of next year. Don’t worry if you don’t make the initial cut, as Square Enix to adds beta testers periodically in waves.
