I’m sure many people have feel good or inspirational Christmas stories, of time spent with family or what not. However, in recent years with the rise of online gaming, one thing has risen to stand up and be even more inspirational and exciting on Christmas morning. I speak of course of the influx of noobs that are lighting up the servers for games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3.
Christmas has always been something of an overall meh holiday for me, but in recent years this bonus experience has always seemed like a fantastic present. Especially if, like me, you’ve already been playing the game for two months and you have the maps and weapons down. Even better, if you already have a group of people to play with, the shooters really turn from a classic, competitive first person shooter experience and turn into a hunting game as you track down lone wolves.
While some of my favorite gaming memories from Christmas-time revolve around playing the first Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune or playing through Gran Turismo 3 after getting it bundled with my PS2, of late, the influx of screaming 12 year olds to the game servers, while somewhat awful in the long run is made okay for at least the next few wonderful days as they learn the ins and outs of the game that you have firmly established. Their curses and whining become almost a new sort of Christmas music, which I can use to drown out the real Christmas music. Even Activision is getting into the spirit, giving Call of Duty Elite users a double XP bonus and a Prestige Token for the Holidays.
So enjoy your time with your family, but don’t forget, for the next few days, it is Lone Wolf Hunting Season!
