Let’s not kid ourselves here: The best thing about Dance Central is that you can get together with your friends and laugh about how goofy you look when you mess up a routine. But you know what’s been missing from the equation? Facebook. Well, Harmonix’s new Dance*Cam app lets you record and directly upload videos of yourself or your friends where 500 million people can get in on the joke.
The app, available for Windows Phone 7, Android and iOS devices, turns footage into a music video as well. Strobe effects? You got it. Weird lighting? It’s in there. A battle mode of sorts lets you post footage of you and a friend dancing off, effectively turning your Facebook profile into one of those Step Up flicks (kids still watch those, right?) Catch the trailer and app track list after the jump.

I’ve been looking for excuses to tell my Facebook friends the story of how I went from a lowercase “g” and made it as a big “G” with strobe effects and through song, so thanks Dance*Cam: You’ve enriched my life in ways I never dreamed possible. I also haven’t seen such effective use of an asterisk in a brand since N*Sync.
