Leaked images and a gaffe on the Game Informer page earlier tonight all but confirmed that this September’s Assassin’s Creed III will feature Revolutionary War-era America as its setting. The image at top is just part of an image emailed to Kotaku from a Best Buy employee (You can see the rest of the pic after the jump.) How do we know it’s around the time of the American Revolution?
For one, the flag behind Desmond’s probable ancestor features 13 stars, which means there are only 13 states or territories. Also, the Game Informer main page displayed a banner the game as its cover for next month. That banner was up for about two seconds as it featured an assassin pointing the way across the Delaware right in front of George Washington. We’ve also got that for you after the jump.
Still, none of this has been confirmed by Ubisoft, so don’t put your faith in these reports quite yet. But according to the Best Buy employee, Ubisoft is set to officially unveil the game March 5 and announce a few pre-order bonuses, so we may know all of this by Monday.
So what do you all think? Do the colonies and the Revolutionary War bear high enough potential for the Assassin’s Creed franchise? The only thing I think we can say with much certainty is that you won’t have to fight vertigo as much in this next installment if what we’re hearing is, indeed, true. Enough of my yammering: Here’s the Best Buy poster. Click to enlarge it to gargantuan proportions.
Oh. And here’s the Game Informer banner:
