Sony Online Entertainment published a Producer Letter today announcing some big news involving their MMO, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes from the Director of Development, Andy Sites.

The biggest of these changes will be to make the game free-to-play. This adds other title to the line of MMOs that have switched over which include EverQuest I, EverQuest II and DC Universe.

Sites also promised more frequent updates for the game. There has also been changes to the development team in charge of this title, and there will be spotlight pieces over the next few weeks in regards to them. Be on the lookout for more detailed information regarding the free to play transition.

I’m looking forward to seeing what sort of items will be in the cash shop. If they are half as nifty as the Vanguard of the Heavens skin used in DCUO, it’ll be worth waiting around for.
