You might not think that there are people whose job it is to study the finances of the gaming industry, or that they’d charge over three thousand dollars to read one of their reports, but you’d be wrong. DFC Intelligence has caused a stir recently with their report suggesting that while console and console game sales are flatlining, PC gaming and the new mobile app gaming continue to grow.
Of course this is attributed to the fact that the current generation of consoles are starting to show their age. They predict that the next generation will boost sales in the 2014-2015 market, but with PC and mobile gaming never slowing down, does the time tested console development cycle apply to today’s market?
The report also suggests that while consoles are prominent in the US market, they have failed to catch on to the degree PC gaming has overseas. Whether you want to pay three thousand dollars to read the report or not, you can be sure that people and Microsoft and Sony probably have. Who knows what will come of it?
