One of the defining aspects of the PlayStation 2’s library was its overwhelming diversity of games. There was something for everybody. Having such a huge library also meant that there were a number of gems that were lost in the fray over the years. One of these games was Psychonauts.
Psychonauts was the creation of one Tim Schafer – known also for Brutal Legend (2009), among others – and the developers over at Double Fine Productions and Budcat Creations. The game was released in 2005 to critical acclaim but was a colossal flop commercially. Because of this, the title flew under the radar of many gamers.
It has been five years since Psychonauts was last re-released on a console – 2007 on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The game will be garnering more attention however, with the recent announcement that it will grace the PlayStation Network next week as part of their collection of PS2 classics (which has a growing collection of overlooked gems; God Hand (2006)for example).
Psychonauts will be re-released August 28th, 2012 on the PlayStation Network.
