Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford posted on his twitter account today, saying “There may be a big surprise from us within the next 24 hours or so. Stay tuned!” This lead to a lot of speculation amongst Vault Hunters as to the nature of the surprise. With the Mechromancer set to hit a week from today, we may be getting it sooner than we think.

An image has been circulating around the internet, starting a rumor that the Mechromancer DLC pack for Borderlands 2 will actually be available a week early. Gearbox has been understandably pushing various Echo Log Trailers and bits of news about the character as of late, even going so far as to create a twitter account for the social media-savvy anarchist.

Checking IGN now reveals absolutely nothing, hence the rumor tag on the article. If it is true, this will be awesome for Borderlands 2 players. A look at her skill tree shows a large degree of variability to the character, and Death Trap may end up being an even better companion than Bloodwing was in the first. I guess we only have a few hours to find out if it’s true, keep your fingers crossed.
Confirmed: A Kotaku review of Gaige reveals that the rumor is true, the Mechromancer DLC pack will be released later today.

Additional confirmation comes from Randy Pitchford’s twitter account. He states “So – here’s the surprise, Mechromancer for Borderlands 2 is ready about a week earlier than I promised. Oct 9, all platforms. Woo! Should be available for download on all platforms by the end of the day. #GaigeFTW
