Whoops! It seems like there’s been a bit of a mix up because a Slovakian retailer has started selling their copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops II a bit early. From the pictures it appears to be a legitimate PlayStation 3 copy of the game, new in the box. Activision and Treyarch have yet to comment on the matter, and it’s unclear whether it’s a mix up or some sort of deliberate breach. Given that the seller is only asking for about 40 Euros I’m going with mistake, as the people who undoubtedly buy these copies will likely resell them on E-bay for several times that.
Its also unclear if the physical copies of the game have any DRM or activiation which would keep them from being used before the normal launch date. I’m certain there are people out there willing to take the risk, though. Expect to see a response from Activision soon. We’ll keep an eye on the story. No doubt the publisher will be wanting to track down their lost sheep and try to find out how they got out early. Someone is going to be loosing their job over this.
