Fans of space combat simulators and starships have one more reason to be happy tonight, as Star Citizen just surpassed four million dollars in pledges in its crowd funding campaign. At the moment of this writing a total of 57,674 people pledged 4,007,768 dollars, making Star Citizen one of the most successful crowd funding projects in the gaming industry so far.
The pledges are split between $1,384,912 on Kickstarter and $2,622,856 on the official website.
In order to encourage a last push to reach even higher, starting with the final 48 hour count down that will begin tomorrow afternoon, Cloud Imperium Games plans to release quite a lot of information for our enjoyment. Things will heat up further at 1 PM Central Time on Sunday: the development team, including the legendary creator of Wing Commander, Chris Roberts (that we recently interviewed here), will launch a 24 hour live webcast on the official site that will go on until the very end of the crowd funding campaign.
Things are definitely looking up for the revival of the space combat simulation genre. If you still didn’t pledge for the project and you want to contribute to the final push, you can do so on the official site or on Kickstarter.
