Star Citizen Breaks Crowd Funding Record for Games, Final Count Down Starts With New Stretch Goal

by on November 17, 2012 2:29 PM 0

This morning Star Citizen broke the crowd funding record for games, previously held by Project Eternity by Obsidian. At the moment of this writing $4,248,348 have been pledged by 61882 eager gamers.

A few minutes ago Cloud Imperium Games started the final 48-hour count down to the end of the crowd funding campaign, promising a lot of updates and news for us to enjoy (so you can expect quite a bit of coverage around here. I’m sure you don’t mind). At the 24-hour mark, tomorrow at 1 PM CST, they’ll be livestreaming with the whole team from their temporary offices in Austin.

To get the final count down started with a bang, they also announced a final stretch goal: in the dream-like scenario that sees the 5.5 million dollars mark overtaken, players will actually be able to pilot a Bengal Class carrier! That’s the very same immense starship you can see in the game’s cinematic trailer and in the technical blueprint below.

According to the developers “It will be very difficult to earn a Bengal… but when you do, it will be an amazing base for clans, squadrons and guilds.”

Who could disagree with that?  If you still didn’t pledge for the project and you want to contribute to the final push, you can do so on the official site or onKickstarter.
