Square Enix has announced via the PlayOnline/Final Fantasy XI website that it will be hosting its first ever Double EXP weekend. Outside of special in-game “dedication rings” that boost experience points up to a certain percentage or a time-limit, there has never been anything like this in the game’s now-11 years of existence.
The event is being held to commemorate the release of the game’s fifth expansion pack, Seekers of Adoulin. This expansion pack will also be the last officially licensed PlayStation 2 game ever made. Players will receive the doubled EXP in all areas of Vana’diel, except for the one area where everyone and their mother spends most of their time leveling up, Abyssea. The effects from the aforementioned dedication rings will also be doubled, while experience gained from items and quests will not.
Final Fantasy XI‘s first-ever double-EXP event will commence on Friday, February 8, 2013, at 10am and continue until 9:59am on Monday, February 11, 2013. Seekers of Adoulin will be released on March 26th, 2013.
