The 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII has been released yesterday in Japan, and today Square Enix shared something rather… peculiar: a live action TV commercial that’s being aired in Japan.
You’re probably asking yourself what’s so peculiar about it. Live action commercials are rather common, after all. Let’s put aside the fact that it looks massively cheesy, the interesting tidbit is that the characters speak Spanish.
Don’t believe me? You can check it out here (as usual with Dragon Quest VII commercials Square Enix disabled embedding for some reason, so you’ll have to click on the link).
This isn’t actually the first time that Square Enix airs Dragon Quest live action commercials in Spanish. As a matter of fact the 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VI had one as well.
If you’re wondering about the reason, I am as well. It probably hasto do with the fact that in Japan Latin languages (especially Italian, but Spanish as well) are considered some sort of real life equivalent of “fantasy” languages and often used to add flavor to fantasy scripts, especially for Anime.
