The Last Guardian “A Long Time Coming” Says Creative Supervisor

When the news broke in December 2011 that lead designer and director of The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, was leaving Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan to pursue other endeavors, many declared the project all but dead. Plagued by a slow development cycle with cryptic little to no information divulged since its announcement, it is not unfair to assume that a significant amount of people have lost faith in the title or have given up on it all together. Sony executives and Ueda himself have maintained that the game has been in development and will be done when it is done, regardless of the thin flow of information.

New hope for the title now comes in the form of Ueda’s personal website, in which he has stated that he is still in role as a creative supervisor, while the game itself, “is still in development by an incredibly talented team.” ”Details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN’s release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself,” Ueda said, “please keep an eye out for their official announcement.”

The Last Guardian is being developed by Team Ico and will be published by Sony presumably for the PlayStation 3, though rumors have persisted that the game may have been tweaked to run on the system’s successor.
