If there is one aspect of nailing Star Trek that is of paramount importance, it is nailing authenticity. With such a robust canon and history, it is easy to make mistakes and anger a lot of fans in the process. J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek may have avoided this (for the most part), but Digital Extremes has faced the challenge of taking Mr. Abrams’ immensely popular film and crafting a game that captures the allure and atmosphere that drew close to $400 million in ticket sales.
Detailed in the video are the involvements of Star Trek‘s composer, Michael Giacchino, who returned to score the game, and the entire Star Trek cast, who returned to voice their respective characters. The one track played in the trailer is arguably much more closer to the tone of The Original Series than his work that was featured in the film, and it was nice to see the actors actually given a chance to act, albeit for only a few brief moments.
Star Trek is being published by Namco Bandai on April 23rd, 2013 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
