Crytek: Monster Hunter Online Is NOT Confirmed for North America and Europe

by on April 22, 2013 9:28 AM 15

I hate to start my reporting day with bad news: a couple days ago Crytek sent a press release stating that Monster Hunter Online would be released worldwide by Tencent and Campcom.

While I did specify that the press release didn’t come directly from Tencent, so it wasn’t a 100% official announcement of a localization, it was still the next best thing.

Unfortunately the “next best thing” often isn’t enough, and today Crytek sent us another press release basically taking everything back. Here’s the relevant quote:

In a press release issued last week, we stated that the upcoming Monster Hunter Online from Tencent Games and Capcom would be released “internationally”. This information was in contrast to official communications from Tencent Games, who only confirmed the release of Monster Hunter Online for the Chinese market at a recent promotional event.

As stated by Tencent Games, Monster Hunter Online is only officially confirmed for release in China, and we would like to apologize for any confusion caused by our stating otherwise.

While this doesn’t mean that Monster Hunter Online will never come to the west, it does mean that there’s nothing official to fuel our hopes for the moment. We’re back to square one, and we’ll have to wait for something to come directly from Tencent.

It’s most definitely a pity, but I still have a feeling that we’ll get the game sooner or later. Tencent has been looking into the western market very seriously as of late, and Monster Hunter Online, as a well known IP, would be the perfect chance for them to cross that bridge. We can only wait and hope.

Ok im sorry but this is incredible bull****, You do not state that a game that was anticipated by all monster hunter fans in the west, to be confirmed, and then turn around and say “sorry for the misake”

My personal theory is that the game is actually coming, and Crytek knows it, but tencent wasn’t clear in telling them that they couldn’t reveal it yet. But again, that’s only a theory. If I’m right we’ll see an official announcement sooner or later.

That is unacceptable thousands of western fans were greatly excited for this, thanks a lot. This Was the one thing I have been looking forward to. Thanks, going to go cry myself to sleep now. (not even joking)

Doesn’t mean it isn’t coming. We’ll just have to wait and see. I’m quite disappointed myself, but eh.

Finally, a true beastly HD looking Monster Hunter game! It’s about damn time. Man I hope this gets released in the west, but for consoles like PS3 and 360 as well. My old PC isn’t equipped to play games.

I’m afraid PS3 and 360 aren’t equipped to play this game as well.

Well that’s what was said about Crysis, originally a PC game, but it was ported over to PS3 and 360. Maybe it didn’t have the same polish, or frame rates as the PC version, but it still made it’s way over. Never the less, I hope it makes it’s way to western home consoles. If it needs to be PS4 or the new Xbox then so be it.

Crysis is not a MMORPG. MMORPG have entirely different requirements because they need to display an unpredictable number of characters on screen.

If it were to go on PS3/360, it would have to be massively downgraded graphically mostly for memory reasons.

In any case it’s unlikely that it’ll see a console port, as the game is being developed by a Chinese company, and in China the console market is extremely small.

Yeah because video game consoles were illegal to own in China until just this year, lol.

While this is a Cry-engine game, it doesn’t look all that much better than the original games.

Gah, and after I was so pumped up. :/

  • Roland_Tembo

I’m betting its 100% Xbox durango exclusive. Called it early, will read this much later.

No way, Microsoft doesn’t care about games like Monster Hunter, there is already a monster hunter game on xbox 360, Japan only, if Microsoft wanted a monster hunter game they could just translate that one

YA it is BULL****, if they same something like that they shouldnt change that and with the game being this known in the west the possibilty for other PC gamers to come and play is insane and by the way the game is looking from vids and pics this could be a huge hit and I know a couple of people who are my friends who are actually surprised by the game and want to play it! SO STOP HOGING EVERYTHING CHINA!
