Grid 2′s LiveRoutes System Changes The Track As You Play

The LiveRoutes system was briefly touched upon in my first hands-on preview of Codemasters’ upcoming Grid 2 game, and then I actually got to try it out for myself in my multiplayer hands-on preview. Now Codemasters have unveiled a new trailer (which you can view below) that shows off LiveRoutes, along with some new information.

So far, LiveRoutes has been confirmed for specific events in the game’s city environments, including Paris, Barcelona, Chicago, Miami, and Dubai. Junctions on LiveRoutes circuits can switch the track up to six different ways, while LiveRoutes randomly selects a route through the city, offering “millions of possibilities.”

Clive Moody, Senior Executive Producer for Grid 2 at Codemasters, had this to say:

“LiveRoutes is the new challenge event that we’re most proud of in Grid 2. It’s as fresh to racing games as Flashback was when we introduced it as a mechanic in the original Grid.”

“In a LiveRoutes event, you don’t know what’s coming next and it turns each race into a test of your racecraft, car handling and reactions on circuits that cannot be learnt. In both career mode and online, LiveRoutes offers near limitless possibilities in every race and it’s a great leveller, even for the most experienced racing game players.”

We still have yet to get a taste of Grid 2‘s patented “Flashback” mechanic, but I’m sure it’ll come up soon before the game releases on May 28th, to the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Check out all other Grid 2 news and videos here.
