Partnership with Microsoft Reveals Beautiful Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Artwork

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn may not be coming to the Xbox 360, but Square Enix sure is keen to partner with Microsoft to promote the game. Last Weekend at the Nico Nico Chokaigi 2 event the publisher had a co-marketing initiative with Windows 8, but that’s not all.

Microsoft and Square Enix have put the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and the Internet Explorer 10 brands together for another partnership, and one with a touch of art and creativity in it.

The art is provided by the game’s Lead Character Designer Akihiko Yoshida, in the form of a beautiful concept for the Warrior job that you can see above. The creativity is provided by gamers, that are invited to share their thoughts on a given theme via Twitter and Facebook. Those thoughts will then be converted into a text art using Yoshida-san’s artwork as a base.

The first one  with the theme “Your favorite scene in the Final Fantasy series” has already been completed, and you can see it at the bottom of the post, but there’s another in the works (currently 2.1% complete at the moment of this writing) and you can leave your mark as well even if you don’t know a single word of Japanese.

Go on the text art official page (using Internet Explorer 10) and scroll down until you find the two blue buttons portrayed above. Click on the dark one (the light one is to check out the first finished art and the second one in progress) and you will be directed to another box. Click on the light blue button on the middle, then select either Twitter or Facebook, log in with your personal account to authorize the app, and then you’ll be prompted to write your message up to 100 characters long. The current theme for the second text art is “Your favorite boss monster and the reason why”.

Of course the Japanese have the advantage of being able to write a lot more with less characters, but I’m sure you’ll do fine, and even if you don’t want to contribute, you can still enjoy the artwork. Akihiko Yoshida is one of the best character designers in the Japanese gaming industry after all.
