If you want to get your hands on the next generation consoles, Gamescom might be your first chance. For the first time, in fact, the two consoles will be playable for attendees at an event that isn’t press-only, as specified in a press release sent by the German Computer and Video Games Association.
The press release includes the following quote by German Computer and Video Games Association Managing Director Maximilian Schenk:
Sony has already announced that the PlayStation 4 will be playable at the Gamescom. I also assume Microsoft will be presenting the Xbox One big-scale too.
Interestingly the German version of the press release also includes the following line:
Mega-Trends 2013: neue Konsolengeneration (PlayStation 4, Wii U und Xbox One für Besucher spielbar)
Translated to English it simply means “New Console Generation (PlayStation 4. Wii U and Xbox One playable for Visitors). Strangely enough this part is absent from the English version of the press release, but it’s not too surprising, as translated press releases often tend to be simplified quite a bit.
Gamescom will be held in Cologne and will be open to press only on August the 21st, and to everyone from August the 22nd to August the 25th. If you do come and see me around do say hello.
