Sonic Lost World Contains Some Surprisingly Mature Dialogue

There used to be a time in which first-person shooters and survival horror games maintained an understandable level of violence and gore, while games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros. maintained their nice, kid-friendly image. Sonic Lost World, the newest Sonic the Hedgehog game, seems to be straddling the precipice of maturity, as the ESRB has rated the game E10+, while adding that there is some strong, threatening language amidst the game’s dialogue. The following quotes were provided in the official rating of the game:

During gameplay, characters sometimes use aggressive language (e.g., “You’re going home in a box,” ‘I’m going to skin you alive,’ and ‘I long for death’s cold embrace.’) Cutscenes also depict laser fire and explosions, as well as dialogue that references violence (e.g., “I’ll get fat from eating your black hearts,” “One second you’re contemplating genocide,” and “As long as I can still strangle a Zeti, my hands are fine.”).

I’m looking forward to the sequel, “Silence of the Hedgehogs.”

Sonic Lost World is being developed by Sonic Team and will be published by Nintendo for Wii U and 3DS on October 18th, 22nd, and 24th, 2013 in Europe, the United States, and Japan, respectively.
