Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Full Burst’s “Dragon” Kabuto Fight May Just Make You Give Up On Life

There have been some very insane, frustrating, and just all around legendary boss battles in fighting game history, which in recent history–off the top of my head–include Street Fighter III‘s Gill, Street Fighter IV‘s Seth, Guilty Gear XX‘s Ino and the 2009 Mortal Kombat reboot’s final Shao Kahn story battle. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3‘s “Full Burst” update seeks to add to this list. With the new DLC story battle, which teams the Uchiha Brothers against Kabuto, players have to take on Kabuto with a powerful new sage “dragon” mode that utilizes the incredible powers of Orochimaru, plus what a few nasty tricks of his own. All I can say to UNS fans is this: be prepared to strap your controller to your wrist, because you’re definitely going to be tempted to throw it, and your window and TV are much too precious for that.

Similar to my time on Dark Souls II, this battle seemed impossible: Namco’s representative, DualShockers’ Allisa and myself all gave it multiple tries, and we were all destroyed. This boss battle has, up to the part we kept losing, Sasuke fighting Kabuto with Itachi as his support, and with Kabuto having seemingly superior speed, agility, and unlimited substitution jutsu teleports. Where the two of you initially only have two life bars a piece, Kabuto completely heals after a quicktime event sequence, and then has five-full-bars to your measly two (or less, by this point). Needless to say, this battle will take all of your fighting prowess to win, and I am ashamed to say I couldn’t even get to the first QTE (although I am proud to say Allisa did, which, as far as I’m concerned, has now made her as much my rival as Kakashi is to Guy).

Naruto Shippuden - Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Full Burst Kabuto 03

As previously reported, the Full Burst update not only comes with this all-nighter story battle, but with 100 new “super hard” missions, a message which CyberConnect2′s Matsuyama (???) personally delivered while in a Naruto costume, and said was made for fans. The DLC will also feature tons of costumes that have been released (some you may have gotten, some you may have missed), and for the first time ever, an UNS game will be released via Steam for the PC.

This update is coming as both DLC for UNS III owners and a retail-release for newcomers. I inquired about how Namco would find a comfortable price point for game owners and newcomers, to which I was told they would be checking the MSRB near the time of release, and offering a fair, competitive price to those who are buying it for the first time, and a fair price for those just purchasing the DLC.

Hard, cheap boss battles don’t make a good game. My favorite one was the Kakashi VS Edo Zabuza and that was pretty easy. It was just so well done and fun!

Completely agreed. I’m not an overachiever at all in games, and while I have stubbornly stuck to certain fighting game boss fighters until they’re over, I often stop caring the third or fourth time I take a new character to the end because I know they’re just made to destoy my dreams lol (case in point, that final Shao Khan story battle in MK).

Hopefully this one will be less like that when it releases, and I can use my items and such to help.

Damn, not sure I want buy this. I don’t understand why they only decided to add one new character. Seems like a waste.
