It has been confirmed that at least one of two integral characters in the Batman mythology will be making an appearance in the upcoming game, Batman: Arkham Origins. The characters in question are the Gotham City Police Department’s Commissioner, James Gordon, and the Joker’s sidekick/lover, Harley Quinn.
Eric Holmes, Creative Director of Batman: Arkham Origins, confirmed to a fan via Twitter that Gordon would be, “encountered in the story. Hoping we will show him soon.” Given the continuity, it is very possible we will run into Gordon when he is a Lieutenant-Detective, long before he ascends to the role of Commissioner. When questioned about Harley Quinn by a fan who saw her picture in the multi-player trailer, Holmes did not confirm nor deny. If Joker is committed to Arkham Asylum, it is possible we may see Dr. Harleen Quinzel and the start of their relationship.
Batman: Arkham Origins is being developed by Warner Bros. Montreal and will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC on October 25th, 2013. A Vita version of the game, Batman: Arkham Origins – Blackgate, is also in development by Armature Studio and will be released on the same day.
