Timely as every Wednesday, we get the Media Create software and hardware sales charts to let us know how games and consoles are doing in the competitive Japanese market, but this week’s charts (related to the period between August the 5th and August 11th) aren’t much of a competition.
Here’s the software chart (with games released this week bolded, and lifetime sales in parenthesis).
While the hardware chart looks like this:
First and foremost we notice a very solid showing of the 3DS and its games. Nintendo’s portable keeps printing money in Japan and it should come at no surprise. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies keeps selling, and that’s also not surprising.
Dragon’s Crown also holds nicely in the top ten, actually gaining several positions from last week, indicating that Atlus probably restocked the many stores that had ran out of copies. Seeing it perform this nicely after three weeks of sales is definitely promising for such a niche title, and I can see quite a few hating pundits having to eat crow on this one.
Unfortunately what really did not sell well is Yakuza 1 & 2 HD for Wii U, that not only isn’t visible at all in the top ten, but also failed to make the top twenty, becoming the very first Yakuza game to fail selling well in its Japanese debut week of the history of the franchise. I guess everyone that wanted to play the two games already has them in their original PS2 version and/or on the PS3, but it’s still fairly disappointing for such a popular franchise.
