Square Enix Starts Taking Action Against Gilsellers on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

by on September 6, 2013 5:58 AM 11

RMT (Real Money Trading) advertisers, nicknamed “gilsellers” on Final Fantasy MMORPGs because the coin there is called “gil” are a serious problem. Not only they annoy the hell out of you with tells, shouts and similar pitches, but they also try their hardest to phish or hack accounts in order to use them for their dirty business.

Square Enix always had a rather harsh stance against them, and now that they’re starting to be a problem in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn as well, the development team is taking steps. Today they announced the banning of 518 RMT accounts, and encouraged players to blacklist any gilseller they see after reporting them via [System Menu] -> [Support Desk] -> [Contact Us] -> [Report Cheating].

The game could really use a “right click on name -> report” feature and a similar one for blacklist, mind you, but for now we’ll have to do it the long way. And it’s indeed quite needed, because they’re getting very aggressive. This morning I saw a couple shouting  their grating advertisement every single second and completely saturating the area chat, not to mention the tells right after logging in. Quite an annoyance indeed. Thank goodness for the blacklist option.

If you’re wondering who the dude at the top of the post is, he’s probably the most annoying jerk you’ll meet in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Exactly like your average gilseller.

Yeah, that guy is a total dickwad and sadly you can’t beat the crap outta him. But, you can kick his little gang up though.

I guess it’s better than nothing.

All gilsellers and people who buy there gil will burn forever in ifrits hellfire @_@…

But seriously glad to see SE making a move on these annoying people.

Let them hang by our masts Maelstorms. Then we’ll chuck em out the sea. Gil sellers are the black plague to any game economy and any buyer deserved to be ISP banned.

That was really annoying having them shout and tell to you about their gilselling. I was kinda shocked over how long they were able to promote their powerleveling and gilselling.

The devs should come up with a creative way to publicly execute these “players” and place their heads at the gates of each city as a warning to other potential gilsellers. Or that mythical Neo like player from FFXI can swoop in, as the legends say he did, and round them all up and commit banacide.

I’ve had tell after tell, seen area shouts spammed and even got a random friends request from a very obvious GS name. My blacklist, after a week, is full. It’s always funny, however, when the GS character is found and other players just swarm around them and emote. Personally, I don’t see the need for buying gil and so far, I’ve seen very few reasons to actually NEED gil if you aren’t devoted to crafting. At 40+, the only things I’m actually purchasing are gyshal greens (for my companion), which amounts to about 3500g per stack of 99, and teleport fees.

You’re gonna need gold when you run out of quests that gives them. Unless you have a crafter / gatherer that can provide at least in my experience after downing a lot of gil on the relic reborn weapon I can say gil / gold is scarce after 50. But still I like the idea of putting them in stakes at the gates

Think that it costs too much to pay 15 bucks monthly to play the game? Guess what, I got myself a free copy of this game from ff14download . weebly . com, it’s cracked by skidrow and it’s FREE FOR LIFE

Who cares if it is cracked? You still have to pay a subscription… unless you have hacked their mainframe and given your SE account special privileges.

I’m very confused as to how they’re even getting any people buying.

The second I see them spamming the LAST thing I’m going to do, is to buy Gil from them. “Oh, you like flooding the chat with shouts, yells and private tells with bots? I’d LOVE to buy Gil from you!”

What sort of idiot falls for this?

  • Korvin Blue

Oh your banned 518 accounts. so we get MAYBE 5 minutes of peace. then they start using 518 new accounts stolen from idiots who fell for the phishing emails and those who didnt protect their account. this is not a solution.
