Digital Sales of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn were suspended almost immediately after release due to unexpected amount of purchases, that led to overcrowded servers and a lot of frustration for the game’s early users.
In order to alleviate the traffic Square Enix decided to put a stop to digital sales in the West, and to also interrupt the flow of distribution of the physical retail edition of the game in Japan.
Last week Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida promised to monitor the situation through the week end and to resume digital sales if things were found to be stable. Apparently they were, as the digital download version of the game is now available again on the North American Square Enix store.
Looks like other local stores are still getting updated (for instance the French one still has the game marked as unavailable), but with the reopening of sales in North America other markets are sure to follow suit.
If you were waiting to set foot on the reborn realm of Eorzea, but didn’t want to bother with DVDs and boxes, the floodgates are finally open again.
