World of Warcraft has consumed many a gamers’ life over the past decade, but after a much-protracted time in development hell, the film adaptation of Blizzard’s hugely-popular MMO now has a firm release date for us to see raids and level-grinding on the big screen.

According to a post by Legendary Pictures, their adaptation of World of Warcraft will be set for a holiday release of December 18th, 2015 – still a ways off, but already set to launch in a year that will see some other high-profile blockbusters like The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: Episode VII.

Described as “an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict” in the post, Legendary’s film will be written and directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond, K-PAX) will also be writing for the film, and World of Warcraft will be a joint release between Legendary Pictures and Universal Studios.

It’s still very, very early in production – I believe they don’t start shooting until early next year, at the moment

thats a bit disappointing i figured they were much further along since the movie was mentioned a couple months ago.

Updates on it have been very on and off the last few years since it’s changed hands a bunch of times – originally Sam Raimi was going to direct it, but he left, leading to Duncan Jones coming on, etc.

But, glad to see it’s at least moving forward!
