Amazon Cluelesss on PS4/Watch_Dogs Bundle Pre-Order Situation, Waiting for More Information (UPDATED)

by on October 15, 2013 1:46 PM 14

Following the recent announcement of Ubisoft’s delays of both Watch_Dogs and The Crew, DualShockers has reached out to Amazon for a comment on how this new delay will affect shipment of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4/Watch_Dogs bundle was one of the most popular when Amazon first started pre-orders for the system.

Amazon seems largely unaware of what their actions will be in light of this new development, citing that they, “need to receive more information from our supplier before we can determine if the PS4 can be shipped separately.” When I asked whether or not there was a possibility that this would curtail PS4 shipments entirely, I was told that they, “haven’t confirmed what we will be able to do yet.
we will inform anyone with an order as soon as we have more information.”

Watch_Dogs is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal alongside Ubisoft Reflections and Ubisoft Romania, and will be published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC on an unannounced date in the Spring of 2014. You can see the full transcript of my conversation with Amazon’s customer service department below (the customer service associate’s name has been removed):

CSA: We still have the November 15 release date showing, if there are any delays or updates we will inform you by email.
CSA: We will keep you updated once we have more information, is there anything else I can help you with today?

David Rodriguez: Ubisoft has already confirmed that the game will be launched in Spring of 2014, so that release date is not accurate.
David Rodriguez: I’d just like to know how Amazon is going to accommodate their customers in light of this delay.

CSA: We need to receive more information from our supplier before we can determine if the PS4 can be shipped separately.

David Rodriguez: There’s a possibility that those who pre-ordered the bundle might not receive a PS4 by itself?

CSA: We haven’t confirmed what we will be able to do yet. We will inform anyone with an order as soon as we have more information.

Update: the product page of the bundle has now been updated, adding the following text and mentioning that orders will be adjusted in order to deliver the console on its own.

All orders for the Watch Dogs PlayStation 4 bundle will keep their place in line and we will fulfill the PlayStation 4 (without the Watch Dogs game) in accordance with your current delivery estimate. We are working on adjusting these orders and will update you as soon as we know more.

    WOW, a bit pissy huh.

In Amazon’s defense, the system isn’t destined to ship for another month and Ubisoft just announced the delay of Watchdogs. I think maybe it’s reasonable to give them a few hours to figure out what’s going on before grilling them for answers.

I’ve worked in customer service before, the delay of a big game, arguably a system-seller is not something to be taken lightly. Assuming they didn’t, Ubisoft should have gotten in touch with all relevant parties so that they could be adequately prepared to deal with these questions when they arise.

Just because you worked in “customer service” before does not make you an expert in this situation. And a terribly misleading title, like you’re out to get Amazon for some reason. Lighten up.

        • David Rodriguez

How is it misleading when the rep had no idea what was going on? That is precisely the definition of being clueless.

Guess a longer trip to Los Santos is necessary.

I’ll gladly take a killzone shadowfall bundle instead, no biggie…

Battlefield 4 or CoD: Ghosts for me. I still haven’t decided.

They’re not clueless. It says right on the product page that you will still receive the console on launch day. You just won’t get the game, and they’re working to update orders to reflect this.

Post has been updated to reflect the change.

Sounds good. Yeah, I have to give Amazon credit (as always). They handled the delay flawlessly and even offered $10 Amazon credit to those involved despite it not being their fault at all.
