It’s Wednesday, and as every Wednesday Media Create released its software and hardware sales charts, giving us a bird’s eye view on what happened last week in the Japanese video game market.
Here’s the software chart between October the 14th and October the 20th. As usual new titles are bolded and lifetime sales are in parenthesis.
And here’s what the hardware chart looks like.
The momentum of Pokémon X and Y is far from ended, and Monster Hunter 4 shows that its sales are still very lively as well, jumping back in 2nd place. Grand Theft Auto V still shows very healthy sales as well, even if it doesn’t manage to hit 500,000 units sold in two weeks. Regardless, its popularity is still a great achievement for a western game in Japan.
Saint Seiya, FIFA and BEYOND: Two Souls debut with decent sales, but nothing to run to the hills for.
On the hardware side, the 3DS keeps printing money thanks to its games at the top of the software charts. The PS Vita dips considerably from the 60,000 copies sold on the week of the debut of the PCH-2000 version, but almost 26,000 units is still a very good amount. We’ll have to see where sales will stabilize before judging its performance.
Not everything is fun and games at Nintendo, as the Wii U drops under 3,000 units sold in a week for the first time. Something really needs to be done to revive the console’s sales in its home turf, and it needs to happen fast. No doubt about that.
