Sony’s “Top Secret R&D Lab” to be Showcased on PS4 All Access Broadcast, Will be About the Future of the PS4

Host Geoff Keighley just teased something very interesting for the PS4 All Access Broadcast scheduled to be aired on Spike TV Thursday evening at 11 PM EST:

Thursday, meet the minds behind PlayStation’s top-secret new R&D lab. See where they are taking PS4 next. #PS4ALLACCESS.

While we don’t know exactly what this mysterious segment will be about, it’s hard not to admit that it sounds extremely interesting.

I don’t know about you, but when I hear “top secret” and “R&D” bunched together, my curiosity gets piqued automatically. What will it be about? What kind of “secrets” will be shown? We’ll have to wait and see, but personally I can’t wait to know.

    VR headset. Bam.

Hopefully other stuff. I’d get an Oculus Rift, but I probably wouldn’t get a PS4-only headset.

It would really annoy me if they released their own super-expensive VR headset but did not offer any support for the Oculus Rift.

      • WalkinOnBottles

You must have missed the memo where OR said they don’t want to work on consoles because “performance wouldn’t be enough”.

        • islan

I did miss that, I only heard that they were more interested in developing for mobile devices over consoles. Which if mobile devices can offer better performance than modern consoles, then something is seriously wrong.

          • oGMo

Wow lame. If this is the case they’re on something good, because if mobile performance were better than modern consoles we’d see Ouya and Gamestick outperforming PS4/XBone.

            Not going to happen.

          • islan

If they really said what WalkinOnBottles said they said, then yes, that’s what they would be implying. Or, they just simply see more money in the mobile market so are focusing their attention there.

    Well it’s even better hearing the word ‘PlayStation’ with the words “top secret” and “R&D” 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛

  • You are flat out wrong

    Better be VR.

    True next gen is here.

I really look forward to the day when the headset from Sword Arts Online becomes real.

If they ever make that headset and release JRPGs for it, I will spend every moment -that isn’t for work or eating- in the game 🙂

Its probably just going to be Sony engineers dismantling PS4 and explaining how ‘revolutionary’ it is. While I love both the Xbone and PS4, hyping up what essentially amounts to a mid-range PC is hardly worth all the hype.

MP3 playback rediscovered! The advanced optical technology of CDs will now play! Futuristic DNLA features redeveloped! A universal setting to invert the Y-Axis across all games!

I want to get a PS4 but the lack of the above irks me – these were standard features last gen (well the y-axis setting was only on 360 but they should have copied that).

Not getting a PS4 because of that insignificant features is one of the most hypocrite comments I have seen for I while.

I bet you never planned to get a PS4 and you’re just trolling because if not, then it is stupid.

      • Party like it’s 2006

I don’t think you understand what hypocrite means.

Incidentally I’m not trolling, I just think those features are so basic that all modern consoles should include them – it’s not expensive to do so.

Gaikai with a “Netflix” like catalog but for games. Subscription based all you can eat games.
