inFAMOUS: Second Son Confirmed to Run at “1080p, 30 FPS Rock Solid”, “Tons of Triangles and Particles”

During the pre-stream segment of the the PlayStation All Access Live launch event inFAMOUS: Second Son Development Director Chris Zimmerman gave some news about the game that will please resolution enthusiasts:

The PS4 for us has been great, we can fun at Full 1080p, 30 frame per second rock solid, and just throw tons of triangles, tons of pixels, tons of particles at the screen. It’s just amazing. It’s actually been a surprise that it’s been this easy for us to get the game to run as fast as it does and to run as spectacular as it does.

So there you have it: looks like we’re in for a visual fest. The game will be out on March the 21st, and you can also check the newly released trailer out right here.

Honestly wouldn’t care if it was 720, can’t wait to get my hands on this great-looking game.

Please upgrade this game to 60fps.

Unless it’s a racing game or a fighting game, I seriously don’t see how it matters so long as it is at /least/ 30 fps.

I know a number better than 30…60! Why not 60 fps? come on Sucker Punch, you gotta at least guarantee there won’t be frame rate hiccups during game play. 1080p@30fps isn’t exactly the most fool proof combination for that. Otherwise, I can’t wait for this game!

it’s an open world game… to get 60fps to run sandbox type game it must be very taxing on any hw.

NID. AC IV is 60fps on PS4 so why not this game also?

        • KainsLegion

agreed on the guarantee of no Frame rate drops, which I think thats what “rock solid” implies. However, just to further comment on your second message, AC4 is not nearly as graphically intensive as Infamous Second Son; Infamous was created from the ground up for the PS4. As a good point to this, the install size for AC4 is only 21GB, which is approximately half the size of Killzone Shadow, a non-sandbox game.

We would of course all love 60fps; but doing such and maintaining a stable game might cost us more important features like incredibly long draw distances, life like in-game action, destructive environments and an interactive world where simultaneous events don’t cause drops. Which is more important?

Based on what you told me, the circumstances dictate 30 FPS is more important for Infamous:Second Son to run its best performance.

          except that ac4 on ps4 is 30 fps 🙂

          • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Well that’s a given. It was a launch title for the system.

Errr… when was the last time ANY game claimed LESS than 30fps? Ps2 shadow of the colossus? Disappointing, it’s a waste of particles and triangles to run em at a crappy 30fps. I’d much rather have 60fps at 720p. Or 900p like they did with Battlefield. I can’t tell the difference from 1080p, seems to be the case on televisions, the pixels are “softer” on a television than a computer monitor and higher resolutions impress less.

So much 30fps and complete lack of 3d is hurting my allegiance to the ps4 camp…

“So much 30fps and complete lack of 3d is hurting my allegiance to the ps4 camp…”

      said no gamer ever…

Lack of 3d? Lack of that thing that is a market failure? Wha? How does that hurt one’s allegiance?

I can see a difference between 1080 and 720. As long as the framerate is smooth and steady, I have trouble seeing a difference between 30fps and 60fps, and it’s not constantly on my mind as I’m playing awesome games.

Psst, monitors are tiny televisions. Same thing.

  • kingjulian83

30fps for a third person action game is totally fine. Higher frame rates are useful for twitch shooters, racing games and fighters.

    • jadedcorliss

I think this game is rocking motion blur also which should help make it look smooth and filmlike.

  • Mitch

Well, I obviously prefer 60FPS over 30FPS, but if it doesn’t drop, I’m fine. GTA V didn’t run at 60FPS, and people are fine with it in that game.
