Walmart Stores Have PS4 In Stock, But Won’t Tell You: Stockpiling for Black Friday? (Updated)

Finding a PS4 nowadays may be a real pain, if not almost impossible through traditional retail chains, but those coveted consoles may just be hidden behind the safely locked doors of each shop’s storerooms, at least at Walmart.

If you check Walmart website, it’ll tell you that the PS4 is out of stock. As a matter of fact, not only the page shows the product as unavailable online, but it has no “also in stores” availability box at all.

But of course that didn’t stop us, and we did some more digging, to be more precise we dug up the code of the mobile store finder of the retail chain, and we got some interesting results.

Here you can see the store finder code for the PS4 around the New York area. To see other areas all you have to do is to change the latitude and longitude values in the url. And here’s the interesting part:

See the text highlighted? It says that the console is in stock. And it’s the same for all the other stores we checked. For the sake of comparison, below you see the same code for a model of the Wii that is currently out of stock at the same store.

Of course we tried calling the store (and many others), and in all cases we were politely but firmly told that the PS4 is sold out and not available.

Yet, while it won’t be openly displayed, the code of the store finder definitely reveals that the console is in stock. It’s just available for sale to customers. Why? The only reason that comes to mind is that stores may now be stockpiling for Black Friday, which will be on November the 29th.

It’s definitely not unlikely that other retailers may be applying the same policy, even if their store finder code isn’t as easy to dig up as Walmart’s. That said, if you’re still waiting to get a PS4, it’s probably going to become available soon in stores. They aren’t going to sit on those units forever, that’s for sure.

Update: we spoke with Walmart employees that confirmed the story and provided further details. You can find them here.

Damn. Black Friday will make things explode.

Sony could give us a new game in the mean time, though.

no. the online sites are a terrible source to see if something is in stock. The Sears and kmart sites are wrong a lot and so is the walmart site. So no they do not have any in stock.

    • I think more often than not its a lazy associate who doesn’t want to go through the trouble of helping you out. Get a manager involved at either store and you’ll be surprised at how an item that was “sold out” magically appears.

Uh stores stockpile things all the time. I know for a fact that Gamestop is stockpiling systems for black Friday and always had we specifically had to tell people for an entire month that we had no Wiis in stock we were told none of them were to be sold before that.

This is true. I called a Walmart yesterday because their website said they had PS4s in stock and I was told that “yes, we do have them but we can’t sell them until Black Friday”. Same thing at gamestop. I was told flat out that a corporate email stated that if one PS4 or Xbox one was sold before Black Friday the person that sold it would be fired on the spot. Power to the players right.

I really do not see what the big secret agent – scanning thing is all about?! If you really want a PS4 now, like I did ,buy one on ebay. I overpaid by 40 dollars and it will be in my hands before Thanksgiving. To me it is worth the extra money and avoids all this Black Friday hassle. Or wait a few more months and there will be an abundance of them.

Of course! This is no big secret. Why do they keep that info online? Because they want you to come in the store and buy anything! “Oh yea, no PS4, but we have tons of Ps4 games and other crap you really dont need”. Its all a con game, so don’t be a pawn. Just wait and keep your dignity. If Sony says you’ll be able to find one in December then I would trust that. Walmart is the most corrupt corporation on this planet. All of its 4 family owners are on the Americas richest most people in the world list for a reason. In other words, this is just a scheme by Walmart to get you to come to the store.

Hmm ASDA aka: Wallmart’s UK buisness, randomly cancelled my ps4 preorder i ordered it back in July, went through and completed and paid for it and put my uni address as the delivery address-they rejected it without even speaking to me leaving my funds in holding for 10 days unaccessible to me. The first I heard of it was when I got an email that said i’d requested the cancellation so I phoned and go the truth and found out my unit had already been reallocated luckily I managed to find a site that still had launch stock-slightly cheaper with killzone but no camera etc so not the bundle I had wanted though… They are great as buying food from due to the low prices-as a student it’s helpful but I refuse to buy anything else from them after that and the poor customer service and fully intend to only shop there when no other choice is available. Soon as im no longer at uni in a few years and should have a decent job I’ll likely never shop with them.
