Gran Turismo 6 Dominates Japan, Beats Attack on Titan 3DS According to Major Retailer’s Sales Charts

Like every Monday the major Japanese retail and rental chain Tsutaya released its weekly sales charts, that are usually considered an interesting glimpse on what the Media Create charts will look like on Wednesday, since Tsutaya has a very large number of stores scattered across the whole country.

Here’s the full chart for the week between December the 2nd and December the 8th. New releases are bolded:

  1. Gran Turismo 6 – 15th Anniversary Special Edition – PS3
  2. Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Humanity – 3DS
  3. Dragon Quest X, titled Sleeping Heroes and Allies on the Road Online – Wii
  4. Dragon Quest X, titled Sleeping Heroes and Allies on the Road Online – Wii U
  5. Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy SuperNova – 3DS
  6. Yu-Gi-Ho Zexal Clash! – 3DS
  7. Bravely Default: For the Sequel – 3DS
  8. Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy Big Bang – 3DS
  9. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII – PS3
  10. Pokémon X – 3DS
  11. Super Mario 3D World – Wii U
  12. Pokémon Y – 3DS
  13. Winning Eleven 2014 – PS3
  14. Gran Turismo 6 Standard Edition – PS3
  15. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – PS3
  16. God Eater 2 – PS Vita
  17. Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 – 3DS
  18. Monster Hunter 4 – 3DS
  19. Dinasty Warrior 8 Extreme Legends – PS3
  20. God Eater 2 – PSP

We got a large bunch of new releases last week, and Gran Turismo 6 dominates the chart, beating Attack on Titan, which is no small feat considering just how popular the manga and anime are in Japan, and the massive weekly sales of the 3DS.

Another interesting piece of data is the Wii version of the expansion of Dragon Quest X beating the Wii U version, showing that there’s still a whole lot of people playing the game that didn’t yet upgrade to Nintendo’s new console.

Bravely Default: For the Sequel launched in 7th place, and that’s not too bad considering that it’s little more than a remake on the same console, and the fact that it had very strong competition during its debut week.

Of course we’ll have to see the Media Create charts on Wednesday for more precise data, but Gran Turismo still seems to be a hot commodity in Japan. Is anyone surprised?

Tsutaya does not publish numbers. We’ll have to wait for the Media Create on Wed for that.

Gran Turismo 6 – 15th Anniversary Special Edition is so hard to get it seems. Many EB Games preorder allotments were short with no second shipment. DLC for this game is already at $60 on Ebay but… the DLC is AWESOME.

Pick up this game, it truly is the definitive driving simulator.

Lightning sure sunk fast. A shame.

Giuseppe, I believe you meant to say between December 2 and 8, not November.
