PS4 Made Available Again on Amazon Japan, Sells Out Once More

by on December 28, 2013 1:35 PM 8

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia President Hiroshi Kawano promised that gamers that pre-ordered the PS4 before the end of the year in the archipelago of the rising sun would get their console by launch. The problem is that finding a pre-order open in Japan isn’t exactly easy.

The local branch of Amazon came to the rescue on December 26th, announcing new availability for the console on Twitter:

PS4amazonJPLike the previous batches, the window of opportunity didn’t last long, as the allocated units were sold out by this morning.

One thing is for sure: if the console keeps selling out every time it’s available for pre-order, we’re potentially looking at the Japanese re-enactment of the successful western launches on February 22nd. The Media Create charts that will be released on February 26th will definitely be interesting.

Japan only cares about handhelds now they said, the PS4 won’t sell that well over there they said.

Consoles are technically still dead over there. This is merely a fluke.

What about the Wii U doing 100K per week? Or the PS3 still selling after all these years and having so many system sellers? What about the Xbo… no, wait…

Japan isn’t a hardcore territory. The PS and PS2 made it big in Japan, but the PS3 clocked up low sales. The original Xbox was a flop worldwide, it was the Xbox 360 that changed the Xbox brand. But in Japan, the Xbox 360 only clocked up around 1.5 million units. If Japan loved gaming so much, the Xbox 360 should’ve sold much better. Microsoft are flogging a dead horse with the Xbox One in Japan. After the Wii and DS, Japan seemed to turn its back on consoles, although the 3DS has sold well. The PS3, Xbox 360, Vita and Wii U have all stalled in Japan. Somehow, I can’t see the PS4 clocking up big numbers in Japan. It’s on the cards what’s going to happen with the Xbox One.
