Sony Japan President Teases “Various” Unannounced PS4 Titles; Talks About Expansion in Asia

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia President Hiroshi Kawano has great confidence in the potential of the PS4, feeling that the console will lead to a strong expansion in the Asian market, even thanks to a strong line up at and after launch.

The potential of the Asian market is obviously large, and there’s a promising market there for the future. We’re always looking at Asia and we will continue to seek growth there, where resource management is crucial. Even when you talk to game developers, now they can release simultaneously in Japan and Asia.

When we became “Japan and Asia,” it allowed us to properly develop, present and market ourselves in Asia. The prime example came with the PlayStation Awards 2013 held last December. For the first time we opened the door to voting from Asia. There was really a big reaction. I believe that we’re just getting started, from now on, we’d like to be even more aggressive this year.

Kawano-san also mentioned that the PS4 has a very strong launch line-up in Japan, but even more importantly, it will be further bolstered down the line.

We plan to release new games at a regular pace. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will launch in March, produced by Hideo Kojima. After that, even if I can’t disclose them now, we have various games incoming. We’re currently considering how to announce them, so stay tuned.

As an interesting detail, in a recent interview on the printed Weekly Famitsu, Kawano-san talked about one unannounced title, while this time he explicitly mentions multiple games.

I definitely can’t deny that I’m very curious on what those titles may be. Considering the topic of the interview he’s most probably talking about games produced by Sony’s own Japan studio, or at least by Japanese developers, but we can’t say that for sure.

Of course we’ll keep you up to date on any further details on the topic, but for now we can only wait and see, waiting for upcoming announcements.

  • We will hear more once PS4 launch in JP, won’t we?

actually Sony Hong Kong have been releasing english, chinese subs of Japanese Voice games on PS3, PS Vita and the like.

they even have two versions of dub(English/Japanese) for audience who want specific voices.

oh how i wish SCEA and other companies take notes of this.

hopefully this will expand on PS4 🙂

I’m sick of “secret in-development” titles. Both PS4 and XOne need titles released, not teased. The trickle that happened at launch has dried up to a drought. For the momentum of console sales to continue, games need to be released at a steady pace. It’s great they have stuff in development, but they need some good ones now.

Both still have a lot of games incoming – especially the PS4 – so there’s no drought at the moment. Why do you think both systems are selling so well, with the PS4 being sold out nearly (if not completely) everywhere.

Games incoming? When? Tomb Raider (PS3 rehash), Rayman (Wii U rehash), and maybe Thief are the only relevant ones hitting before March. Sorry, but I would characterize this as a drought. As for being out of stock, my local Costco has had a pile of them sitting around for a week and a half now. I think the shortage is close to ending. Without games, there won’t be a driver to sell more consoles.

Pretty much every console has drought after launch look at the Wii U, PS3, 360, PS2, etc.

The Dreamcast was the one console that had a lot at the beginning.

Don’t you need a membership at Costco to buy stuff?
