Driveclub: “Every Location Is Precise Down to the Angle of Light. Flora Is Detailed to the Species”

One of the most impressive elements of Evolution Studios’ upcoming PS4 exclusive Driveclub is the level of detail of the environments surrounding the tracks that will appear in the game, and a couple interesting new elements have been unveiled by Sony’s own Be Moved” website.

By scrolling all the way down to the PS4 section, which is the second to last one, not only you’ll be treated to a fantastic animation of a DualShock 4 controller assembling itself, but there also are a couple hidden paragraphs, one of which is about Driveclub.

Artists imagine new worlds. Engineers bring them to life. DriveClub is a new driving game that takes realism to the next level. Every location is precise down to the angle of light. Flora is detailed to the species. The cars are made of a staggering 250,000 polygons. So the feeling of driving is as real as the world created.

While we already knew the polygon count of the game’s cars, the parts about the angle of light and the rendition of the flora are impressive. While I’m not sure how easily a casual observer or even just a player speeding down a hill at 150 mph can notice the difference, it’s quite impressive to see how much attention to apparently negligible details has been poured into the game.

It’s just another hint on how much work goes into making the games we love, even if often we won’t even consciously notice its results.

I’m going to spend a lot of time driving leisurely down the road and enjoying the sights.

Nothing can beat the adam sessliar 5/5 score, the 30% of content available on the disc, and the tons of micro transactions , on forza5: the public alone, it uses at least 50’000 polygons, for EACH guy.

Adam, forza5 is a 6/5 game, not a 5/5. Stop bashing the xbox one, and rate the games correctly, please.

        Didn’t know cardboard cut-outs used 50k polygons.

          Just in case… 🙂

My sarcasm meter failed, sorry 😛

    • Krepler

To be honest, I’m going to enjoy that too!

I was just looking at how Project Cars is coming along and while the cars look absolutely amazing, they look completely out of place when placed on a track and backdrop that doesn’t complement the same level of detail.

Forza 5 destroys this in everyway

You never even play this game, so how do you know. Don’t be stupid an judge a game that’s not even out yet don’t be a stupid fanboy an use logic for once.

      • Jordan

since when fanboy have logic? lol… When they can twist things around that have never exist in the first place. And go against proven facts putting their own claims over it. You dont have to feel surprise with this one coming Have to remember one thing. Fanboys are not fascinated by the actual games themselves. They are fascinated by the brand itself. So no matter how hard they get screwed. They will just love it. I think fanboys are worst than slaves. Since they have 0 pride in them while the least slaves still have some pride in them

    • Bankai

You’ve played the final product?!! No? Then kindly shut your noise hole. You Xbots are relentless.

Anyway, DriveClub looked better than Forza even when it was only 35% finished at E3. Forza isn’t even better than Gran Turismo and it was developed on old hardware.

    • Jack

Lol Gran Turismo destroyed Forza trash already. Forza 5 is a scam of a game being incomplete and a joke as well. Driveclub having the needed development time it that it took will utterly bring XbOne to utter ruin.

    • Isaac Clarke

      Fvcking stvpid xbot.

      • Sǯdi Sǻymeh

its stupid* , now who are the stupid ? stupid

        • Fawkes

now who IS stupid* You really should take grammar lessons before you instruct others on their grammar mistakes.

        • Krepler

It was deliberately spelled that way to avoid getting tagged for foul language.

    • Sǯdi Sǻymeh

forza 4 was the best car sim in the last gen and so will be all other forza’s
      even forza horizon was great

    • Aura7541

I’m sorry, but Forza 5 was disappointing. The anti-aliasing was mediocre and the lighting was baked. All the cars constantly have these weird black rectangles below them and these black rectangles do not change shape regardless of the location of the light source(s). The biggest offense of all, though, was the crowd cutouts. It was noticeable even when you were driving.

    • Jack Slater

Go ask daddy another 100$, so you can buy 3 or 4 new cars, so you can earn the achievement ‘keep spending more and more money on micro transactions, idiot’

Gt6 alone, with a few less polygons on cars(naturally and obviously, the xbox one is 2.5 times more powerful than the ps3) its +70 tracks, 1200 cars, day night cycle, weather changes, many different racing modes, ultra realistic physics, realistic sounds(instead of vrooom vrooom full of distortion, sub basses, etc, that makes a NASA spaceship during launch feel shy), etc, gt6 alone, is 50 times better than the forza5 joke, that the US press , influenced by microsoft, and aided by their tools like sadam sessliar, that gave perfect 5/5 scores, without even talking about the shameful micro transactions system that locks 80% of the tracks and cars, in the game.
      10/10 game? Sure, of course

And look how the game had to be downgraded, to be able to achieve 1080p.
Once again, another PR stunt from micros-oft, showing the game running on ultra high end computers, during E3, to impress press and people.
Lol, the game was running on computers, and 2 days ago, the turn10 comedians just announced that a PC version of forza5 would require rewriting everything.
What a bunch of liars. Your game already runs on PC, the truth is that you want to avoid direct comparisons between xbox one graphics and PC, at ultra setting.

Sounds better & better this game each month. I don’t mind if they spend time making it look more brilliant. I can’t wait 😛

  • OnlookerDelay

Really shocked to see that this thread has evolved into a fanboy peeing contest…. NOT! I”m looking forward to DriveClub, but most importantly, whether it will support current-gen Fanatec steering wheels or not.

    • bigshynepo

Playstation support of last gen peripherals seems to be slightly better than MS’s support so here’s hoping!

  • Krepler

I received an email today from Amazon to pre-order Drive Club with a release date of April 1, 2014. Does Amazon partake in April fools jokes and would they set up for one 2 months early?

    • Giuseppe Nelva

It’s been their placeholder date for a while.

      • Krepler

Really? I thought that was new and got excited… and disappointed that it’s still over two months away, lol

  • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

It would be nice if you could take a screenshot of the scenery while driving, especially of the animals too.

  • Asif Bashir

I’ve got a feeling this game will come out around April…Personally I think all the info on Project Cars is causing Driveclub to get delayed especially with the recent news. The more we see of Project Cars the more the developers of Driveclub keep going back and working more and more on the game. This isn’t a bad thing but I think we need Driveclub right now given the drought of games currently especially racers since ive 100% clocked NFS: Rivals.

  • Guest

This game will underwhelm completely. More overhype.
