Microsoft: Black Tusk Working on Gears Only for a Week; Not Sure if it’ll Be Xbox One/360 Cross Gen

by on January 29, 2014 2:47 PM 12

Microsoft Game Studios President Phil Spencer is very confident in the ability of Black Tusk Studios to restore the glory of the Gears of War franchise, but it’ll be a while until we see the results on our consoles, as he mentioned today on Twitter:

Leadership team has been involved for a month but studio has only been on Gears for a week.

Spencer also said that ultimately it’s Microsoft’s job to make the franchise as relevant as it used to be on the new console:

It’s our job to make Gears as relevant on XB1 as it was on 360.

Asked if the game will be a cross generation title on both Xbox One and Xbox 360, he responded that he’s currently working on the business plan, and he’s not sure yet.

Personally, considering that the game isn’t likely to be released at the very least for a year (unless the folks at Black Tusk are superhuman, I guess), I’d rather see the new Gears of War fully empowered by the next generation, instead of being held back by the limited specs of the old. What about you?

Next geb only, for sure, at least if their first release is a full blown shooter, if they expand gears to the rts or some other type (doubtful) then maybe crossgen won’t matter much.

  • Hates bad writers.

Next gen only, and prove the studio is “world class”. Not digging the title, especially after they haven’t done anything for us. Let’s walk the walk a little before we give ourselves fancy titles. As far as Gears goes I can’t see it going far. We’ve had a trilogy, we’ve had a prequel, what’s next? A prequel prequel? Pendulum wars might be an alright start, but that’s starting from scratch, takes away the “pazaz” of horde mode, and leaves less room for the over the top violence (it just looks so much better when it’s man on locust). We’ll have to see, but considering Rod came back I’d imagine he has half of an idea of something that may work. Time will tell, don’t let us down.

Go Microsoft! Such good devs and exclusives compared to ps4.

You live in a land of rainbows and butterflies if you think that.. Not to mention plenty of Balloons for the totally inept..

Depends I guess, personally I only find the games from Quantic Dream and Naughty Dog appealing on the PS side.

That’s cool, It’s all just a matter of preference really. I’m playing Heavy Rain for the first time right now actually! Speak of the devil eh? :)

heh, I wouldn’t have told you anyway. Enjoy, its a great game, I had lots of fun with it

    Buy more studios.

  • You are flat out wrong

Considering it won’t be out until 2016/17, the only reason it would be cross-gen is if the Xbone was a massive flop.

For the love of God, Phil:DON’T MAKE IT CROSS-GEN!
