The Order: 1886 Described as “Sony’s First Naughty Dog Game,” Insider Says

Ahsan Rasheed, also known as Thuway on twitter and NeoGaf  always had a quite good track record with his information, and according to him The Order: 1886 is being privately defined in a rather interesting way:

The Order is being described privately jokingly as Sony’s first Naughty Dog game. Take that for whatever it means graphically.

While we should always take what “insiders” say with a grain of salt, it’s actually pretty easy to understand what this might mean when we see The Order 1886‘s cinematic approach and visual galore, that resemble Naughty Dog’s games quite closely. You can check out the announcement trailer below for a refresher.

Will The Order: 1886 manage to match the success of the Uncharted series, and maybe generate a popular franchise of its own? We can only wait and see.

When i first saw this last year at E3 i was convinced this was CGi.

    • Shane Firth

Supposedly the current build of the game looks better than that trailer.. if true the mind boggles!

      • Guy Brohski

Let’s hope it has less fog. Grey=boring. A cheap gimmick to hide the terrible draw distance, Superman 64 style.

        • brianc6234

I doubt they use fog on that game to cheat. Sometimes you actually want fog. The PS4 can definitely handle it without having to cheat with fog.

          • Guy Brohski

It’s almost as bad as Silent Hill. If you do a little digging, you’ll find the original reason Silent Hill was so foggy was because of the limitations at the time on PS1. I’m guessing that because this is Ready at Dawn’s first console game, they are having technical issues with the game being in 800p, foggy etc. The Order 1886 imo doesn’t look as good as KZ: SF or Ryse, but C’est la vie…

          • Shane Firth

Nope, the fog is present because that is what London (even in present day) can be like, there are screens from in game with zero-fog in the middle of the day after the Thames’ notorious pea-soup fog has lifted.

Both KZ-SF and Ryse were done by companies known for their eye candy, not played Ryse, but SF was very pretty, but under the polish it was a pretty standard FPS.

I’d hold out for some more gameplay vids before making up your mind.

I’ve seen shot sans fog, and the draw distance looks fine. Olld London Town, regardless of added steam punk elements, was notoriously foggy. Besides, fog is creepy.

    • Millsjonah

      It is CGI.

      • DarthDiggler

I believe its real-time, perhaps the demo was on Dev Kits but they should be able to achieve that level of fidelity.

        • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

they’ll exceed it-at this stage there’s not telling where they’ll go with the power of PS4.

          • Guy Brohski

Just remember, the PS4 has a tablet based CPU and a budget GPU from early 2012. It’s about 1/4 the power of a nice gaming rig. But still, the Xbone is even worse than that.

          • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Devs always manage to juice out more than what’s technically possible so I think Ready at Dawn will catch us by surprise even though the expectations have already been set in stone.

      • Prime157

No, it’s the in game engine, not a prerendered cgi. Otherwise we would investigate false advertising as it says, “made by in game engine.”

Don’t comment on things you don’t know unless you decide to ask a question. Ignorance is bliss, but annoying to the rest of us.

Look closely the video, no doubt it looks impressive as hell, but if you look closely there are some missing anti-alias spots. I watch a uncompressed video of that of a Sony account hack.

        • Guy Brohski

There’s jaggies in The Order 1886 because it’s 800p. And Dronys out there want to prove me wrong?

          • Giuseppe Nelva

Care to prove that you’re right? 😀

What you linked to was an old thread on Gamespot, that was in turn mocked for being linked to a thread from June last year in Neogaf.

Take it over your 720p box……

Cite your source and I just might believe ya, but yeah… #BLAH!

          • Guy Brohski

Look down a few posts, Jed.

          • Jed ‘Papa Doc’ Arain

I’m reading it now dude, ty! 😉

          • PCS4-Box U

Yes, that true but it appears to be because the game has black bars on top/bottom. Whether thats a cinematic/artistic approach, will change in the future (it doesnt even have a release date yet!), or because the console couldn’t run it at 1080p is unclear.

      • Venkatesh Kolhapure

        These screenshots say otherwise 😛

  • ragingmerifes

    I thought SSM made it.

    • Giuseppe Nelva

That’s the pun. It’s actually Ready at Dawn. SSM is just helping.

  • Neil Riley

I need to see more of this game, so far, I’m confused by it. More info and videos please devs.

    • DarthDiggler

I like the mish mash of styles. So far what I have heard of the story sounds intriguing enough to carry a plot.

This game seems almost like Resistance in a way, alternate history but much earlier time line.

    • RoadShow

They have been pretty quiet about gameplay although I’m more confused about deep down.

  • g1yph

Well I was going to chime in and say “uhmm what about Crash Bandicoot?” but seeing as it’s a joke I’ll forgive them.

  • dapaintrain

Honestly the trailer didn’t interest me at all but if you can give me a popper story as to why your shooting things in a 18th century london setting i might reconsider it.

  • J Fito

No. It’s Ready st Dawn first console game creation on the playstation.

  • Guy Brohski

Good old 800p for The Order 1886, smh Ready at Dawn.

    • Brian Evans

lmao….yeah, what happened to every sony game being native 1080p and locked at 60fps?…..this is not true next gen!!

      • Guy Brohski

It was just BS Sony PR and the rabid Dronys who believe Sony can do no wrong.

  • ImonadrugcalledCharlieSheen

Comparing it to a company that consistently produces high quality AAA GOTY winning games, I’m ok with it.

  • Nicholas Perry

I am really excited for this. Linear, focused on Storytelling, has cinematic 2:35:1 AR, has very good AA (And re-written lighting models to produce less aliasing on the specular component)

    Ah, so gud

  • Steven Solidarios

They must be using so many clouds to pull this off! Oh wait. The PS4 is just kick-ass!
