The Order: 1886: Gameplay Footage Teased: “Will Wow You;” Details Shared on “Amazing” Engine and Hair

by on February 1, 2014 5:39 AM 90

The Order 1886 has been unveiled in June and then Ready at Dawn has basically gone into radio silence. Yet something seems to be brewing behind the scenes as NeoGaf user DemonNite, known to be a Sony Computer Entertainment employee (and a quite trustworthy one at that) revealed on the forums.

DemonNite mentioned that “something” has been ready to be shown for a while:

Something has been ready for a while now – I don’t know when they’ll unleash it.

While he doesn’t know when that “something” will be shown, it seems to be a trailer, or more precisely, DemonNyte’s words seem to indicate that there’ll be more than one and the first one will unveil at least a release window of the game (the following line was in response to “I really hope this is a 2014 release”).

I’m sure the trailer will say  (whichever one they show first).

He also seems to be confident that what we’re going to see is going to be amazing and will surprise us:

RAD are doing some amazing things in their engine. Visually, and technically, it will wow you guys when you all see it in action, in real time gameplay.

Finallly talking about the clothes of the characters, he teased the power of the physics engine that will be used in the game:

Yep.. they move really good in action. I rem at the beginning it was a bit too floaty but they’ve fixed it as far as i can see.

Lets not forget that other materials will also have physical properties simulated ; )

What could those “other materials” be? A hint could have been given by Ready at Dawn Founder and Chief Technology Officer Andrea Pessino on Twitter just two days ago, quite interestingly just a little more than a hour before DemonNite’s relevant post (responding to a fan asking whether TressFX would be used for the game):

We have some interesting hair physics prototypes (for beards too!), not sure it’ll make it into the game – maybe… : )

One thing is for sure. We’re all just about ready for the radio silence to end, and for some spiffy gameplay footage of The Order: 1886. Unfortunately we still don’t know when Ready at Dawn will “unleash” it, but I have a feeling that it’s going to be explosive.

So….. This guy/gal (a ‘trusted’ Sony insider) comes out with this, as well as the Souls spin-off rumour? I guess if this footage drops then we should all be even more excited. PS4 Demon’s Souls? Yes please.

Either way, 1886 is shaping up very nicely.

    • https://www.youtube.com/ButtonBros TheRedButterfly

A Demon’s Souls without FromSoft would be garbage. Just sayin’.

      • Zac Lee Martin

Sony have some of the best creative minds and development teams. Sony have not released a half-done game in years. I don’t think they would skip out on a Demons Souls game if they made one.

It’s a very odd situation. Sony has rights to make the game and FromSoftware already invested in two Dark Souls games and a hefty DLC update with the first one. Sony could be directly competing with the original makers. Actually if anything is missing from their exclusive line-up from their development teams it is this kind of game.

        • Swolo Cartièr

“this kind of game” didn’t exist until a few years ago. Now it’ll be milked to death. I mean, look at Deep Down, which looks like a poorly made knock-off of the DS series. This is why the game industry is dying. Just piggyback on whatever is popular. Oversaturation to the fullest.

          • Wes Clarke

Deep down looks more like a spiritual successor to Dragon’s Dogma which is owned by Capcom.

          • Swolo Cartièr

um, have you seen any Deep Down gameplay? It literally looks like they’re making their own DS game. Block block block block, attack. Wash rinse repeat.

          • Zac Lee Martin

Demons Souls and Dark Souls did exist years ago. Check out King’s Field. It is what Demons Souls was based on. It’s the spiritual successor of King’s Field. I have played it but the hit box on enemies is terribly hard to hit and the aiming and movement is way to slow for what enemies you might find.

        • Jason Mourn

NO INNOVATION THERE. JUST A COPIED IDEA of DISHONORED’s style, BUT IN 3rd person.

          sony =/= innovation

          • Zac Lee Martin

We know almost nothing about 1866. Don’t run your mouth about it being a ripoff of something when you know nothing about it.

You are thinking of Assassin’s Creed 1 and Uncharted 1. Both came out within 3 days of each other by the way.

I’m pretty sure you lack creativity yourself. Your comment is just to generic and comparable to other ignorant idiots of the internet.

        • https://www.youtube.com/ButtonBros TheRedButterfly

FromSoft “abandoned” the Demon’s Souls IP for a reason. The talent that makes the Souls franchises what they are wouldn’t be developing Demon’s Souls 2. There’s a magic in FromSoft that nobody will be able to recreate/capture, so rolling out a Demon’s Souls 2 would probably hurt the IP more than help it.

        • Terramax

I think the difference is that FromSoftware, historically, are known as a developer to make games for the hardcore demographic i.e. Armored Core, Tenchu, etc. If Sony are developing a spin-off, sure the quality might be good, but they might be missing the point if they attempt to make it mainstream.

I’m not sure it’ll be ‘garbage’, but it could deviate too much from what made the franchise so unique to begin with.

      • bowserslovechild

I mostly agree, but the juicy part is that Miyazaki isn’t working on Dark Souls 2, so it’s at least possible e could be involved with such a project. And there’s really nothing to say that the FS bunch couldn’t be involved somewhere along the way.

        • https://www.youtube.com/ButtonBros TheRedButterfly

While he wasn’t a developer, Miyazaki was a direct supervisor for Dark SoulsII, so you’re partially correct.

Also, he/FromSoft “abandoned” the Demon’s Souls IP for a reason. The talent that makes the Souls franchises what they are wouldn’t be developing Demon’s Souls 2. There’s a magic in FromSoft that nobody will be able to recreate/capture, so rolling out a Demon’s Souls 2 would probably hurt the IP more than help it.

          • bowserslovechild

Yes, supervising Dark Souls 2 while working on a secret project, allegedly. And as I mentioned, IMO there’s nothing stopping this (Demon’s Souls spin-off) being funded and in development for PS4 exclusively by FS (even if its a small team with SCE, to be bolstered as Dark Souls 2 nears finalisation) as Sony owns the IP and, while it remains to be seen, this may very well be Sony’s yet-to-be-officially-announced JRPG.

          • https://www.youtube.com/ButtonBros TheRedButterfly

I never said Demon’s Souls 2 couldn’t be a thing… All I’m saying is that if it does come to fruition, it isn’t going to be Demon’s Souls 2… It’ll be a game that wishes it was D’sS 2, but the spark – the magic – that made Demon’s Souls great won’t be there. And if that spark isn’t there? The game would instantly be written off as a cash-grab and soil the D’sS IP.

          • bowserslovechild

I guess we will just have to see. If true, I hope it is a good game and, a a spin off, true to Demon’s Souls is all. If the spirit couldn’t be captured with Miyazaki at the helm, then I guess it couldn’t be captured at all.

          • Zac Lee Martin

Please don’t make claims about a product that isn’t out yet.

Sony makes great games and has great writers. They don’t have the same mind as the creators of DS but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a fitting game. It is even possible they could make the game better, but I am not saying that. Sony isn’t a company that compromises.

          • https://www.youtube.com/ButtonBros TheRedButterfly

And I’ll respond by saying the exact same thing. Please don’t make claims about a product that isn’t “out” [read: being developed] yet.

Sony has never touched any Souls projects, and has no experience in that universe. Naughty Dog can tell a good story, but put their writers in charge of Demon’s Souls and you’ll [probably] see just how bad they could flop.

Souls games are like no other. Attempting to recreate and/or emulate said experience won’t fly.

          • Zac Lee Martin

Do you have any reading comprehension? I never made claims about what the quality of the game would be if it were to be made, unlike you who are saying it will be this and that.

Seriously, when you said what I said back at me it didn’t work at all because I’m not claiming anything about something that doesn’t exist like you are. Don’t argue with assumptions.

Several Sony studios hadn’t worked on a certain game-type and art-style before and they nailed it their first try just like with God of War and Uncharted. Do NOT assume that just because the passion of FromSoftware isn’t their that no passion would go into this game. They aren’t like Microsoft where they have a certain amount of time to come up with ideas and to develop the games. They release it when they get it right or move on to something else in the mean time.

If Sony were working on a Demons Souls 2 and the game turned out to not feel or look like it then they would just change the name of it. Sony doesn’t ride on game names.

They made Medievil 1 and 2 and also remade the first one on PSP in recent years. Sony has no shortage on artists and story writers. They can easily accomplish a gothic game, and they already have. If they can’t make it like Demons Souls, which they have more then enough resources to do, then they would change it into a new title or scrap it.

I’m not saying the game would be good or bad or if it will exist or not. I’m telling you not to insult a company for something they never even made, especially when their respect and credibility is so high that belittling their talent is just laughable.

      • matthew tripoli

um the article mentions physics and that was one of the reasons they invested in GPGPU so much(for advanced physics). xbone also has GPGPU just not on the same scale, so dont be too salty .

        • NeoTechni

His point was also that zone’s gpgpu was not on the same scale

          • matthew tripoli

  • PatcherStation

Yeah, we all play games based on the console tech and the detail in things like hair. It’s all about the games. Console tech doesn’t prove much. Can’t say I rate many Sony games. Somehow, I can see The Order having the graphics, but lacking game play. Most of Sony’s games suffer from this. But we’ll see at launch.

    • Ritsujun

      Not hard enough, Beeburr.

    • mike larry

haha jealous xbot, get back to gaylo

shut up dumbass you have no games so keep playing kack the pile of trash or crapzone 4

        • Bankai

First you say we have no games, then you contradict yourself immediately after? Looks like you’re the only dumbass here. Also, it’s “Knack” and “Killzone: Shadow Fall”.

        • HeczTehFinezt

Funny how most of you Xbots bought a PS3 for TLoU and a PS4 because not many want to get an xbone in their butts. Please give me a good Xbox exclusive game that will make me want to buy an XbOne.

          • Adamphetamine

I’m a sony fan and ps4 owner and I’m jealous of a few of their exclusives, to say otherwise is a lie. Titanfall is amazing, I want to buy an Xbox one just for that game, Sunset Overdrive looks incredible, Quantum Break is fantastic looking, Plants vs Zombies GW, a casual game, also looks rad, there are a few other too. I don’t see why ps4 owners are scared to say that xbox one has good exclusives, it’s childish.

I bought a ps4 and am happy with it, I valued sonys exclusives over microsofts, but does that mean ours are better or that theirs are junk? Not at all, it’s only childish fanboys who act like that. Like I said I’m going to buy an xbox one to use as well as my ps4, as the Xboxs exclusives are too good to pass on.

Hah simple and to the point, I like that :)

    • datdude

This game will kick Titanfails teeth in, and whatever other crap is incoming for the underwhelming xbone. Don’t be butthurt. Can’t touch Sony first party devs. Nuff said.

      • Adamphetamine

Geez you kids are so immature. I’m looking forward to The Order, I bought a ps4 for it, but will it outsell titanfall, no way, titanfall is the most hyped and most wanted nextgen game. Hopefully we get the sequel on ps4. Comments like yours make you look like an immature jealous troll. Grow up.

        • datdude

“Titanfall is the most hyped and most wanted nextgen game”…Really? Says who? You must be one of those sad sacks who believes everything you read online in a gaming media site. If it’s so hyped and most wanted, according to your particular brand of genius, why isn’t it crushing other games in pre-orders, particularly so close to it’s launch, with less impressive preorder figures to games not slated to be released until later in the year? Why are it’s preorder numbers so ordinary and pedestrian? Stop drinking the kool aid son….you’ve had your fill.

    • Temjin001

Patcher, most of Sony’s games don’t suffer from this.
And don’t think about listing titles from David Cage or That Game Company as evidence of it. Yes, Sony invests in some games that can sooner be recognized, in a general case, as interactive entertainment or an artistic expression of visuals and audio over the games we’re used to in the more traditional sense. But Sony is one of the few AAA publishers that produces the quantity of quality diversity as they do.

      • PatcherStation

Going from the PS2, there’s been very little AAA games from Sony. God of War and Uncharted are more of the same, which is the norm in gaming. The last bad game I played from Sony was Little Big Planet Karting, which was a big let down. Wipeout was decent, but the last good one was on the PS2. The Getaway games had terrible game play. Little Big Planet looked good, but that’s about it. Not played The Last of Us yet. I’ve been saying for years that Sony games are mutton dressed as lamb. Sony games usually lack depth. Somehow, I can’t see The Order being a killer game. But I some gamers do have very high standards.

        • Bankai

Very little AAA games from Sony after the PS2. You must have been living under a rock for the past 7 or so years, because you’ve missed a lot. Sony’s first party studios have made tons of fantastic titles, with an amazing amount of depth.

As for GOW and Uncharted being more of the same, you couldn’t be any more wrong. It’s obvious to me that your standards are impossibly high or you just don’t know what a good game is – especially if you believe that the last good Wipeout was on PS2.

All that said, The Order: 1886 will definitely be a “killer game”. The fact that you can’t see that is further evidence that you have no idea what you’re talking about.

        • Temjin001

Patcher, Sony has never produced more quality games than during the PS3 era. They went from being a publisher I could live without to being one of the very best. Uncharted wasn’t more of the same. Uncharted, especially it’s sequel, were way beyond any of it’s peers and there was nothing on PS2 comparable to it for that matter.
Yes, GoW is more of the same, and GoW3 was predictably great due to the massive boost in technology. I do feel the series is up for being rebooted to something more in depth but that point is an aside. Other major titles published by Sony that have earned widespread critical acclaim include The Last of Us (no, it’s not Uncharted with zombies), Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Tearaway, and yes, the more artsy Journey and narrative driven Heavy Rain. Keep in mind, many of these were up for Game of the Year awards. That’s not to say they didn’t have great PS2 offerings either, like Shadow of the Colusses.
I’m personally loving the Puppeteer. There isn’t anything out there quite like it. Other quality games by the same publisher include Infamous, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo (it is the most realistic driving simulator), Motorstorm, WipeEout, Resistance (3 was my fav).

Now tell me Patcher, what other publisher within the same span of time as the last gen can claim as many quality and diverse titles as Sony has? To write off 1886 just because it’s published by Sony says a lot more about your predilections than anything.

          • PatcherStation

Yes, quality games as in graphically. Most of Sony’s games lack playability.

          • XDrone (is the new name)-lol

Let me try to get a “ryse” out of yo ( laughing quietly . How would u rate ryse’s gameplay??

      • XDrone (is the new name)-lol

Hey don’t feed this troll. He’s just trying to get a “ryse” out of you since that game LACKED anything for gameplay, lol so hard at that joke had to include it in my post.

    • Waterboy156

lack in gameplay? they’ve only released teasers.

      • PatcherStation

In other words, I’m guessing that The Order won’t be as big as it’s being made out to be. When it’s released, I can’t see it living up to the hype. Sony games usually lack depth (game play).

        • Waterboy156

I see what you mean, its expectations will be hard to reach. Which is funny cause we only have screenshots. I accept your opinion but will have to disagree, I think PS games are very deep and very responsive for the most part

        • Bankai

Again, Sony games rarely lack depth. And The Order is going to be as big, if not bigger than it already is.

    • Bankai

“Somehow, I can see The Order having the graphics, but lacking game play. Most of Sony’s games suffer from this. But we’ll see at launch.”

You obviously haven’t played any Sony games if you truly believe that.

    • HeczTehFinezt

Oh man lets see uh Titanfall and Dead rising 3, not exclusive. TF is also available on PC, which Im going to get and better specs. DR3 will be available on PC and possibly on PS4. All I see are games bought by MS. Please give me an EXCLUSIVE XbOne game that will make me want to buy an XbOne. None *drops mic*

  • Emir Gacevic

if this is in game…then no need for ps5

    • Gamez Rule

PlayStation Now might be a real reason why there’s no need for PS5? Built into TVs, used by phones, PS3/PS4/Vita/Laptops/PCs, as well as 3rd party hardware being able to use it. A win win for Sony, and us gamers☺

      • Temjin001

Until they can get streaming consistency, in all of it’s aspects, right I have little interest in having something like PS Now as a replacement to local hardware processing.

      • Adamphetamine

No way will PS now replace he ps5, it has to stream perfectly 100% of the time! and I don’t think that’s possible even 5 years from now.

Time can only tell i guess

Do u work at Sony studious? R u working on the team to develop psnow? Don’t think so. Do u have a degree n programming ? Its only your opinion and only that, not reality.

It’s gonna be mind blowing-I’m getting this on release whether I see footage or not.

I would really like to see some gameplay, I honestly could care less about how good a game looks if the gameplay is weak. I’m still only cautiously optimistic, as opposed to straight up hyped. Hopefully we see some gameplay soon.

RAD’s god of war games had very good gameplay especially so for a psp game. These guys have skills beyond just graphics and physics. Still I am not going to let myself get too hyped just in case
