Deep Down Delayed After the Summer: Will Use the PS4’s Full Power; Won’t Be a Game that Could Be on PS3

by on February 7, 2014 1:10 AM 28

When the PS4 exclusive free to play game Deep Down was fully unveiled at Tokyo Game Show, Capcom promised it would start its beta testing around the Japanese launch of Sony’s new console on February 22nd, but looks like development will take a little longer, as revealed by Producer Kazunori Sugiura in a group interview on Dengeki Online.

About Deep Down, I think we’ll give full fledged information to everyone after the summer, so you may have to wait for a little while beyond the launch [of PS4] on February 22nd.

Since we don’t want to risk to be told “This could have been done on PS3!” we want to finish a game that fully uses the PS4 hardware specs.

Producer Yoshinori Ono also echoed the sentment, mentioning that the development team is doing its very best and putting the maximum effort into making steady progress in developing the game, in order to create a truly new experience.

Personally, I never find any issue with developers taking more time to deliver the best experience. You get only one shot at releasing a game, and it’s definitely better for it to be late than underwhelming.

So the beta is being delayed as well?

    • Giuseppe Nelva

      Definitely sounds so.

If you’re smart Capcom you’ll drop the F2P scheme and release this as full retail game or at least offer the version for people who don’t want to give a crap with microtransaction.

Of course I can’t recall the last time Capcom did smart business move.

      Shifting Monster Hunter to 3DS?

      • icecoffemix

Which could sell for much more if it went multiplatform like every publisher did (well, the non-jap anyway).

        • Suzaku Kururugi

That would be the smartest move, the shift to 3DS was still smart.

          • Sai

You mean where it sold less than MHP3rd on PSP?

          • icecoffemix

Speaking from sales, no not really, it’s declined. Not even releasing it on PSP was stupid, the fanbase was still big there.

        • ragnathebloodedge

Its very unlikely as SCE Engineers are helping in co-developing this game. Look it up if you dont believe me I am telling the truth.

Whoever said I’m talking about this game on that post. Context please.

nope, one of their worst business moves. A game like that could have easily been a multi-plat on PSP and PSvita. They missed out on a ton of sales where there was already a huge install base and, no doubt, a lot of japanese would have bought a vita solely for MH.

Actually microtransaction based games do quite well. Likely you can use a portion of the $60 you save on gear or items day 1.

      • icecoffemix

Yes, quite well for Capcom, assuming there are enough people out there getting suckered by those “deals”.

  • Nice Ness

Wait, so the best looking game on PS4 will be free to play? That means I could play it without paying ANYTHING and still have one of the best looking games by a great developer from Capcom…
*sigh* Capcom, this will hurt you

    • RicardJulianti

Free to play……with PS+ Unless of course it has an offline component. Hopefully it doesn’t have that F2P feel that they all do. There’s just something about them that feels….off.

      • james

F2P games on PS4 don’t need + to play, like MMOs.

        • RicardJulianti

I thought it was up to the developer for F2P/MMO games?

Idk…I don’t have a PS4 yet so I’m completely out of the loop when it comes to that.

        • Anime10121

MMO’s aren’t required to have Plus either (see FFXIV) it’s up to the publisher’s descretion.

  • jarvis

bit disappointed but glad at the same time they care about the game.

BTW Capcom revenue down by 3.5%. I guess they become bomb victim of Gay-st Crusher. Serves them right for not releasing Vita MH4.

  • Jessenia Lopez

take your time do it right..honey

  • Gamist

I am starting to see a trend in developers taking more time developing their games. The future of gaming is going to be good if the trend continues. I understand it will cost them more money, but it sure as hell gaining my interest in their upcoming games and confidence in these devs.

I will never ever believe a japanese developer evar!!!, they always show some stuff first and the final product is totally different, the only developers I trust are western developers, or european. There is no disscusion the PS4 is the most powerfull console outthere right now period, but to somebody say that is going to use the full power of the PS4 so early is total BS!!

    • Guest

      Everything surrounding Sony is BS!

    • PrinceHeir

“the only developers I trust are western developers”

lol tell that to Gearbox and Aliens Colonial Marines.

      • Trim Dose

and of course there are the exceptions. -_-

  • Witblitz

I don’t want micro transactions. I HATE IT. I rather buy the full game with expansions like a premium.
