Troy Baker tries InFAMOUS: Second Son: “Holy. God. You Guys Ain’t Seen NUTHIN Yet;” “We are Stoked!”

by on February 9, 2014 3:10 PM 71

Today Voice Actors Troy Baker and Travis Willingham (that lent their vocal cords to protagonist Delsin Rowe and his brother Reggie) visited Sucker Punch Productions to try the upcoming PS4 Exclusive inFAMOUS: Second Son, as tweeted by the studio itself:

@TroyBakerVA and @WillingBlam flew up here in the snow to play the game. They aren’t disappointed!

Animation Director Billy Harper also added:

LOVE the fact that @TroyBakerVA and @WillingBlam are playing the game and killing it. #truegamers #SecondSon

Troy Baker himself gave an enthusiastic assessment of the quality of the game

@SuckerPunchProd@WillingBlam HUGE understatement. WE ARE STOKED!!!

Holy. God. You guys ain’t seen NUTHIN yet. #SecondSon

He also provided an interesting piece of information on one of the features of the game:

FACT: All of the “pedestrians” populating Seattle in #SecondSon are actual Seattleites whose likenesses were scanned and put in the game.

Below you can see two pictures of the two playing the game, also giving a quick glimpse on gameplay (or better, on one of the cutscenes that portrays both their characters).

Looks like InFAMOUS: Second Son managed at least to pull the heartstrings of its voice actors. In just a month and a half we’ll finally see if the gaming community will be stoked as well. So far so good.

yummy yummy yummy.i love you troy.you and second son is awesome

  • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

You mean the people sony hired are praising the game? What a surprise… does shuhei also like the ps4, and albert penello still like the xb1 too?
    .
    .
That said hope this game is better thannit’s predecessors.

    • delsin row

bro,ign and gameinformer are praising the game.its not just them

      • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

They also praise almost every big title that is coming … it is called journalistic advertising….

        • delsin row

like what?name one game that they are praising and turns out it was a bad game.i remember they never praise ryse or killzone.we saw what happend too those games

          • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

Those weren’t big titles, they were the only titles … they were more focused on the hardware at that point … but titanfall, infamous, beyond two souls, call of duty ghost, lightning returns, etc, etc, etc … and that is just recently. But sure none of that ever happened, because it wouldn’t make ps4 look better.

          • delsin row

so you say this game isn”t good enough?you say this game isn”t big enough?

          • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

            What?

          • delsin row

im confused!you say they shouldn”t praise the game? you think this game isn”t worth to praise?

          • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

Where did i say “they should’t” praise the game? I simply stated sony employees (specifically employed for this game) giving praise to this game isn’t very telling.
            .
            .
As well, i did not think the old titles were very impressive, so hope this is better, that is all.

          • Kieran Parkin

i guess its just personal taste then.
having all consoles and a pc, i still to this day pick up and play infamous 2 just for fun, its a freaking amazing and well polished game.

          • vcarvega

Titan Fall isn’t out yet… inFamous was good and received praise post-launch as well. I can’t speak for Game Informer, but IGN started to express doubts concerning Beyond around a month before the game came out.

Although I am not a COD fan, Ghosts has received wide acclaim from its fanbase.

So it sounds to me like you simply have an issue with people like games that you do not. From all accounts, this is the first next gen game worth getting excited about… it deserves to be talked about. I do agree that the voice actors would have a biased opinion. But Troy Baker is also a huge gamer and has not come on Twitter applauding the dozens of other games he has appeared in over the last year (Including The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, or Batman)… so him being ‘stoked’ may be a reason to be excited. That said, I suspect they were more excited about the graphical quality than the game itself… it’s already clear that there has never been an open world game that looks so good.

          • Bjørn Bjoernsen

I think they were praising Haze at the time. Also, they seem to be a little to happy about every Call of Duty, but bottomline, you are right. Reviews can be influenced, but rarely bought.

        • Sunnycyde

          Right on

      • Sunnycyde

        Lol that’s not saying much

      • Mark Anthony Dodd

and IGN praising the game is something since they on MS payroll… (if you don’t believe me look around the site somewhat to see the slant in MS ads and content over PS content. MS fund a lot of IGN ad revenue)

    • Sunnycyde

Agreed, I’m not impressed that Sony hired people praise a Sony game, no way it’s not biased. I hope it’s better than the last ones but I don’t have high hopes. I’m already very disappointed that in this day and age they didn’t include multiplayer or at the very least co-op. But I’m hoping it’s good as we don’t have any other games going on around then to compete with Titanfall, and we also need good games to play obviously.

      • Wargreymon559 .

NOT EVERY F*CKING GAME NEEDS MP.If you wanna play against other people go buy a damn shooter.I’m glad SP didn’t add it.Infamous is known for it’s SP story not damn MP.

        • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

Yea, dont rrally see mp in this game (just like i dint for dr3) … but no coop does seem a bit lazy, but mainly bothers me because i play games MOSTLY to enjoy with my buds. And i like to get my moneys worth.

          • delsin row

so keep your money tight.i hear someone is stoling near your home.

        • Sunnycyde

Lol exactly like I thought, of course it doesn’t need multiplayer, cuz it’s a ps4 game right? Yeah infamous and the order are perfect for multiplayer and to say otherwise is a lie. Get over yourself.

          • stevoman75

Who do you think you are? lol. You haven’t played these games, you aren’t a game developer, and have no basis to say these games are perfect for multiplayer…. Yes some single player games have great multiplayer components I would have never expected like Assassins Creed or The Last of Us, but at the same time, multiplayer game design takes a whole different skill set than building a single player game. Both of those developers have zero multiplayer design experience and excel at telling single player stories with great game mecanics. Let them make the game they want to make and do what they are good at. There are plenty of other multiplayer games out there.

          • vcarvega

Nah… every game doesn’t need multiplayer and not everyone wants to play multiplayer. To this day I’ve never played multiplayer in GTA V or Assassin’s Creed.

The Witcher 3 will be one of the top 3 games this year hands down… does it need multiplayer? HELL NO. Not every game needs that type of mode forced in. Has nothing to do with the system… The Witcher 3 will be on every system.

      • Jeremy Winters

So it not having multiplayer is a deal breaker? I hate it how so many retards nowadays prefer that every single game should include multiplayer that in most cases takes priority away from single player. I swear, times are getting worse. If there’s a day when single player is phased out and I can’t just play by myself, I will move to another fvcking planet. Goddammit.

        • Bankai

Most games would benefit from multiplayer, if you want to play alone then that’s still an option, it’s not like you’re forced to do it – and multiplayer only takes away from the singleplayer if the devs are lazy (example: The Last of Us and GTA V have excellent single and multiplayer components).

          • shinitaru

“Most games would benefit from multiplayer, if you want to play alone then that’s still an option, it’s not like you’re forced to do it “
Not if it detracts from the real focus of the game, which is SP. Tell me, how well did Tomb Raider and Uncharted 3 benefit from adding MP? Zero, nobody plays MP on those games but they used money and time to add MP to them, resources that could have been applied to the SP to make it an even better game

      • jb223

How do you feel about Titanfall’s move of being MP only?

        • Sunnycyde

I think that was a even bigger mistake hen only single player :/

          • Virdin Barzey

Completely disagree with you. Hey it your opinion. Games that come with both MP and SP usually end up having one of them being half-baked. No thanks.

If they going to make an MP game like Titanfall, let them spend all of their time to make it the best MP. If they are making an SP game like Infamous, stop using up resources just to tack on an MP that nobody will play in a few month.

          • shinitaru

“If they going to make an MP game like Titanfall, let them spend all of their time to make it the best MP.

I agree, I have no interest in Titanfall or any other TDM style FPS, but at least it has a set direction and identity and doesn’t try to be everything to everyone.

          • jb223

I’m split on it, because on the one hand, I never touch the tacked on mp on the singleplayer games I enjoy, but on the other hand, I’m afraid this might turn into a sp vs. mp winner take all match this gen where we no longer see much of one or the other according to the sales of these franchises. Online mp already has the built in boon of lite drm being able w/ a game that is only online, so I’m worried that true singleplayer experiences will dwindle. Hopefully everyone can enjoy the kinds of games they like to going forward and it doesn’t have to be a one or the other scenario

      • Giuseppe Nelva

Just giving you a heads up. Sony paid them to put their voices on the game. Not to praise it.

        • jb223

Exactly. Troy Baker is not going to ruin the credibility he has obviously fought so hard to cultivate in the prime of his career. Granted these kinds of early mentions don’t always tend to be correct, but I’d trust a voice actor of Baker’s capabilities much more than any typical corporate brass personally, the dude voiced two of the most important characters from two of the most important games of 2013.

        • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

You could say that about normal actors as well, how many actors do you know that go around and say “this movie sucks?” My point is i’ll base it on actual reviews and how it looks to me, not based on people who stand to gain.
          .
          .
Actors promote their movies because they want it to do well so other producers will see their value and want them for their movies.

          • vcarvega

Not the same at all. Sure, most actors would not express doubts over their movie while on a publicity tour (although some have been far from enthusiastic about their project when speaking to the press). But VERY few actors will go out of their way to express excitement about a project when they are not in an interview.

Troy has been in over a dozen games this past gen. He didn’t hop on Twitter to give the others this type of praise. And that is the flaw in your argument.

    • jb223

If you didn’t enjoy the first two then why would you even care about this game whatsoever? It’s not looking to be something completely different, its a refined version of the original gameplay w/ new elements added. I personally felt that the first 2 Infamous games were some of the most well crafted and smooth gaming experiences of last gen, so I’m all in for a new iteration. Also, I get that people involved w/ products typically talk them up, but look at Troy Baker’s recent track record, he is on the best streak of his career, I highly doubt that he would back a bad game and destroy the credibility he’s gaining as soon as it’s taking off. I really don’t see anyway in which people who enjoyed the prior games in the series won’t also enjoy this one as much if not moreso. No problem if the series isn’t for you, but you definitely can’t call it bad by any stretch of the imagination. In an age where gamers almost expect bugs & glitches in their games, Sucker Punch have consistently released some of the cleanest games out there, if the genre’s not for you, then disregard it.

      • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

Because the devs have said on multiple occasions, this game is nothing like the rest and brings a whole nee experience.

        • jb223

I’d love to see a source or link of these comments because if that’s the case then they should expect a bit of disappointment. I have heard them say that the game brings a lot of new elements & its obviously set in a much more different & advanced environment, but the core mechanics seem to be very much the same, aside from the rumored multitude of powers, it’s definitely not going to be completely different from the prior entries. Anyone who has seen the early footage should be able to glean that this is very much still an Infamous game at its core, bells & whistles aside.

          • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

Well perhaps “nothing like the rest” was a bit of an overstatement, but yes all new elements, powers, story line, destruction has a new role, etc.

          • jb223

Oh in that case then for sure, it does seem like the game will be beefed up in most regards, I guess it’s all down to what didn’t click w/ you for the last 2 installments. I feel like the story might be presented a bit differently, but on the same front I’m not sure who’s writing the game, they might not veer too far off the path in the actual tone, but they have definitely made a point of divorcing it from the past 2 to an extent by using a brand new character in an existing location so that could definitely end up completely different.
The one thing that has me the most curious is the amount & variety of powers. I doubt there will be a crazy amount because they seem to want to keep the experience tight, especially by having players utilize all of the powers by only making certain recharging elements available in certain situations & areas.
To me this game looks like it is attempting to be Infamous in a refined and (hopefully) perfected form, bringing in new wrinkles to the gameplay while keeping the core mechanics in place. I personally felt that if nothing else its hard to argue that the previous games didn’t have a very appealing silky smooth gameplay to them, SP definitely did world traversal better than most in my opinion, unlike other games like Assassins Creed where it was easy to end up in a completely different place than you intended, moving through the world in Infamous was always a breeze, and combat was varied yet solid in most regards. Hopefully the game is as great as Baker says, I’m inclined to believe him since I loved the last two so much, but mileage may vary for different folks.

          • vcarvega

Agreed. inFamous is in my top 5 of last gen… easy. The story in the first one was my favorite video game story last gen until I played The Last of Us. A lot of ppl thought that Bioshock Infinite’s story had such big plot twists… when it was basically the same plot inFamous used 3-4 years earlier (and actually did a better job at imo)!

Not only is expecting a different core experience silly… it’s completely unnecessary. The gameplay mechanics were extremely polished by the second game and they already have an interesting universe established. A new story and new powers to play with was all this game needed. Already pre-ordered from PSN.

          • jb223

Same here, I already know the gameplay will be amazing, but like you said, the stories were actually really great for Infamous. I was a major comic book kid growing up and for my money there really have been very few actual comic book games that rival Infamous in any way from story all the way to the mechanics. It’ll be great to see where they take this story for the next gen indeed and I’m really glad that Sucker Punch decided to stick w/ it.

    • Bankai

Yeah, how dare someone praise a good looking game. Just who the hell do people think they are?! I’m outraged by this, no game should be praised!

On a more serious note, Second Son will definitely be better than its predecessors, which is saying a lot because they were great.

      • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

You saw the above as rage? … that said i didn’t like the predecessor, but this is a new console, new story, and new mechanics (powers, destruction etc) so hoping it brings simething i like, i am waiting for the reason to buy a ps4, the money is just waiting patiently.

    • Redinferno124

And MS never does that either…..right?

    • shinitaru

No, they hired them to do some of the voicework, they also had them do a bit of publicity. Happens all the time, actors plug their movies, writers go on book signing tours, etc. It’s not like they hired some joe smoe off of the street to say good things about the game.

  • Bankai

    Urge to fap… rising!

  • idi

Or, just maybe. It’s a good game worth praising. WOAH PLOT TWIST.

  • ChatWraithDeux

How am I not interested whatsoever in the infamous series? I know it’s graphically impressive on ps4, but story-wise isn’t it kind of a turd?

    • Daniel Dorestant

Are you asking if its a turd? Why don’t you play it and decide for yourself

      • ChatWraithDeux

I played infamous 1 and I don’t think I made it through the entire intro sequence because of how bland the character design was, and how bad the scene transitions were.

        • ChatWraithDeux

It was just one of those..”ughh, i just can’t” moments.

          • Jp Due

Best ending in video game history. You missed out

          • ChatWraithDeux

I heard they retconned it for second son, so Idunno if that could be true. Also aren’t there two endings by your choice?

        • Daniel Dorestant

          Too bad for you…

But to call the story turd after playing the intro sequence? Cmon man…

        • shinitaru

Okay, so you are saying that you judged the game based on the opening cinematic? Okay, you are free to have whatever opinion you like, but you can’t say that you really know anything about the game if that is all that you played of it

          • ChatWraithDeux

Nah the opening sequence. I played for maybe 25.? minutes. As I remember there was lightning and it was really choppy and i fell off/died on a bridge and my character got stuck in some crag in it, and then the game kept taking forever to load, and I was like “welp, forget this.” and went to play some dark souls.

          • shinitaru

if I remember correctly, been a long time since I played it, it took me a little while to get into it. Anyway, this is a completely different game, character, story so you can’t really know what to expect from it…but did you see those screenshots of the in-game Seattle compared to the RL city? Kind of impressive…storywise we’ll have to wait and see

          • ChatWraithDeux

Well for games that are going for a “realistic” look, I kind of expect that to be the standard now for new gen. I wouldn’t buy a game purely on visuals though.

          • shinitaru

I do think that I remember saying “we’ll have to wait and see” right now all we have are a few screens and about 20min of gameplay

          • ChatWraithDeux

I wasn’t negating what you said, I’m saying that should be a bar of expectation now for these kinds of games rather than a feat that stands on its own.

    • Jewy McJew

Well, its not exactly Shakespeare but you might be pleasantly surprised!

      • ChatWraithDeux

Maybe I’ll go back and check it out…I got it for free when they released PS+ back whenever, but it’s gonna be forced. I played prototype and liked it a lot, but don’t get me wrong, the story in prototype is pretty sub-par.

      • shinitaru

then again, a Shakespeare game would probably suck

    • ISISSecretAgent

infamous games were more about the gameplay to me at least, i know what you mean with the story it is kinda meh most of the time but still it’s fun to play as the bad guy and see the outcome of your actions

with SS i plan to play as the villain in my first playthrough

  • Redinferno124

If I buy a copy of the game, will the fanboys give me 255 downvotes?

    • Arnold Stallone

      They didn’t learn that number.
      Try with 1, 30, 360 or 720.

  • You are flat out wrong

All those Xbots whining over a proper next gen exclusive they can’t have.

    Too bad.

  • bigshynepo

“FACT: All of the “pedestrians” populating Seattle in #SecondSon are
actual Seattleites whose likenesses were scanned and put in the game.”

    NEXT-GEN is Here.

  • PatcherStation

And how many times have we read or heard this before? It’ll have amazing graphics, but it’ll be more of the same. Played the first game, couldn’t get into it. Can’t say I’m a fan of Sony games. Fingers crossed that Uncharted 4 turns over a new leaf. Anyone with any sense will take reviews with a pinch of salt, more so from official magazines and websites. Plenty of a**licking just before a AAA game launches.
