New Information on Driveclub, Gran Turismo 7, PS4 Virtual Reality Headset and More Provided by Insider

by on February 17, 2014 3:33 PM 53

Industry insider Ahsan Rasheed, also known as Thuway, provided a few tidbits of info on the the upcoming PS4 exclusive Driveclub, on Gran Turismo 7, on the rumored PS4 Virtual Reality headset by Sony and on the already rumored resolution of Thief on Xbox One:

Ugh I just got a bit of info I was sworn to secrecy on :-/. VR is going to be amazing. You will say KANDO.

Very interesting solutions, multiple prototypes, but the end product is Hnnnnng. Say hello to Gran Turismo 7.

Drive Club is supposedly looking much better too. Should be a good couple of months of Sony exclusives ahead.

Oh and Thief might not be 900p anymore after 8 percent more Xbox One GPU allocation. Last I heard it was 900p tho.

And this sounds like beating a dead horse, BUT developer houses are so happy with the 8 percent performance boost. Thank you MS.

Hey GT guys, I hear GDDR5 has got you 3d trees and real people. Now if only I could find out about your engine noises.

Of course, while Rasheed has a quite good track record with the leaks provided by his sources, we should as usual take this kind of insider information with a sizable pinch of salt, as no official announcement has been made by the relevant developers and publishers.

For those that don’t know, “Kando” is a word used by Sony President Kazuo Hirai to describe Sony’s products at CES, and means “creating emotion” in Japanese. All I know is that trees fully rendered in 3D in a Gran Turismo game would make me quite emotional for sure.

    Intresting about VR))

900p and 30fps in Big games, such as BF4 and TW3 in 2d.. So what need to expect from 3D?
    15fps and 600p? Very intresting)

    • Giuseppe Nelva

I’m wondering myself. Probably it’ll be cut in resolution, because VR without high frame rate is a very poor experience.

      • crazysapertonight

Yeah. This is the main question. As I understood, Oculus will not release Oculus Rift for consoles because of lack of performance.. And now I really don’t undestand, how sony will solve this problem…

        • Blighted

I’m sure sony has a plan, you might find that the sony vr has it’s own internal performance booster to shift the load, with that said the screens within vr tech are going to be a lower resolution as standard anyway. It might mean games with more load timers to seperate areas too ease pressure but i’m sure it’ll be a good experience

          • crazysapertonight

Lol)) It is too dificult and too expencive.. such VR garniture with own processor.. I can’t imagine something like that.

        • chitown

Sony is one of the world’s premier hardware companies. OR is a startup venture. I’d be willing to bet that Sony has a few more brains on this…

          • crazysapertonight

If it so cool, why Sony almost bankrupt? I think that if they had something intresting, they would already show it.

            sorry for my English

          • duthart56 .

Sony have lost alot of their market to Samaung and LG, these giant companies are able to offer better prices on electricals than sony seem capable of.. I think this will change in the near future. I also feel that Sony will survive through inovation and their consistently improving image of late.. No doubt PS4 has been a huge success but there is so much more to this amazing company.. I doubt they will go Bankrupt in the near future if at all….

          • You are flat out wrong

            Thanks for your concern, misterxmedia.

          • duthart56 .

            Wise Words….

      • Prime157

Good question, I’ve still been trying to figure out if ps4′s os needs as much ram allocation as it does. Amd if it was blanketed out to handle this stuff. Maybe the headset acts as an expansion pack..

      • duthart56 .

Someone has been quoted as saying sony’s VR effort is far superior to the rift. I very much doubt Sony in their wisdom would overlook the importance of framerate and resolution and am fairly confident they will deliver a premium experince. I think Sony are making the right moves at present..

        • Guy Brohski

As long as the image quality and head tracking are decent than this Sony VR just might outsell the Rift..

    • Guy Brohski

Most “HD” movie content is 540p on 3D displays already anyway and it still looks nice, 600p wouldn’t be too bad.

      • crazysapertonight

600p is terrible, anyway, specialy in the games.
What the problem? I want to be build PC for around $1000 and buy Oculus Rift to play in native 1080p with hight fps.
        Ps4 – only for exclusives)

        • Guy Brohski

The Oculu Rift isn’t 1080p. Even the supposedly “1080p consumer model” is only 960 x1080 because the horizontal res is cut in half to make an image for each eye. The Sony VR headset will look mush crisper, as Sony has a better grasp on display technology with their TV/monitor consumer division. The Oculus Rift frankly has very horrible image quality.

          • crazysapertonight

read Engadget article: Oculus Rift – the best from CES 2014.
They wrote that the display from OR have 1080 resolution.

          • Guy Brohski

You didn’t even read my last comment did you? I said even the 1080 version of OR isn’t actually native 1080p. It is 960 x 1080, whereas native 1080p is 1920 x 1080.

  • AlwaysRight

Can’t wait for GT7 on my ps4, and damn VR would be amazing. Driveclub though, sounds dissapointing according to many previews, but here’s hoping it’s good.

    • Stefano Musilli

which previews? those from E3 were disappointing, but everyone is saying that the game is really getting better. just watch the differences between the videos.

      • AlwaysRight

I’m hoping it’s good as the concept rocks but not getting hopes up.

      • Arnold Stallone

Those previews made by the same guys that gave 10/10 to forza5.you know which ones…

    • Bankai

You mean the E3 previews from almost a year ago?

      • AlwaysRight

No, I read two on n4g last week.

    • Daniel

I played #Driveclub at Expo back in August. It was fun, but slightly arcadie. It seemed like they were going for a mix between NFS and GT. It looked gorgeous and beautiful, played mostly well. I’m interested in it.

  • SuperJamaican

Sony is cutting loose…bout time…still, where are the fighters.

    • TOROi3

next gen dead or alive please!

  • Jewy McJew

I was amazing that some kid with cell phone parts was about to out-develop Sony in VR solutions. But there was no way it would last. Sony’s VR solution is probably now very competitive (and perhaps very similar) to Oculus Rift.

    • Bankai

If the eye-tracking and brainwave monitoring features are true, then you shouldn’t have been worried in the first place.

      • Jewy McJew

Those are some mighty big “ifs” :) These things tend to work better in the labs than in consumer’s homes… but here is hoping!

        • duthart56 .

What is it that makes electronic equipment work better in a lab than in a home? I work in a lab and I have the same electricity supply in here as in my home. That comment is nonsense. Things are optimised in labs to work in the home and as such if it works in a lab it will work in the home… I also didnt see too many ” big if’s” on this discussion!

          • Jewy McJew

I am sure the electricity is the same :)

But you don’t think that “eye-tracking and brainwave monitoring” features which have never been demonstrated in any consumer product warrants some skepticism?

          • duthart56 .

I agree in that sense, some of these ideas are crazy.. I’d rather have something solid that performs the basics than have a full set of features that dont deliver… I would rather see accurate head tracking than experimenting with eye tracking. And as for the Brainwaves what would that even do???

          • Daniel

            Three things

            Murphies law.
            Controlled environment
            Consumer error.

  • Stefano Musilli

i think GT7 will finally be what GT5 should have been. if it isn’t, we can definitely say that GT is dead.

    • YuriGotBack

GT5 and 5.5 (6) killed the GT series, but i have a feeling the PS4 will finally have the power to produce PD’s vision, if they can fix the absolutely horrible engine sounds.

      • Zubayr Bhyat

Still waiting for the GT6 update.

      • Surging

I hope they kill the microtransactions, and the ridge-racer interface, add the ability for custom mods on the car, allow me to paint a swastika on my door and go racing online lol as an example lol…

  • Mikeherp Derp

If an Xbox game runs at 30 fps avg, an 8% boost is 2.4 extra fps. Yeah, this is the magical “new SDK update” that’s going to let Xboner games catch up to PS4. NOT.

    • Stefan

GPU boost and Framerate is not a 1 to 1 ratio. PS4 owner, also a lot of PC gaming so I thought I would educate you.

      • Mikeherp Derp

Educate? LOL. What a dumb arrogant twatbag. It was an example.

        • Stefan

It was a bad example and you got called out. Sorry about your feelings.

          • Mikeherp Derp

Holy crap are you autistic and retarded? Do I have to put “approximately” in front of the framerate number so spergs don’t freak out and rage? LOL

          • slumdog hundredaire

Nope, Stefan’s point stands…. Your example is as poor as piss still.

        • slumdog hundredaire

It was a piss poor example.

          • Mikeherp Derp

You’re a piss poor autist if you sperg out because I didn’t specifically clarify it was an approximate number/example.

          • Stefan

            Serious question. Are you mad?

      • Vulcanproject

        Yes it’s not a 1:1 ratio, it’s typically LESS.

Not least because even 8 percent more core performance doesn’t give up any more memory bandwidth which appears to be a bottleneck of the system.

        • Mikeherp Derp

Both games running at 1080p 30 fps (capped) is leaving PS4 power on the table.

  • Losyak

I don’t know if there’s still any hope for triple-a titles on Vita, but I’d really like to see GT7 go portable…

  • cell989

With a dedicated processor included in the VR headset, should suffice to compliment the ps4 and boost the processing power, thus achieving balanced VR gameplay

  • duthart56 .

You would expect the next gen gran Turismo to be incredible. Drive club is looking great and I hope we see both of these games supporting the illusive VR headset. Sure even with the 8% boost Xbox one owners must be hurting a little knowing that their machine is less capable. I wonder if Microsoft may actually release an improved version of the Xbox. Would make sense..

  • Surging

The Devs at Gran Turismo always brung out the full potential of the playstation consoles. Gran turismo 7 will be a beauty for sure !.
