Call of Duty’s Lead Platform Switching to PS4; Digital Game Sales Higher than Xbox One’s According to Insider

by on March 18, 2014 7:42 AM 183

The Call of Duty franchise has been associated with the Xbox brand for quite a while, but something may be changing, as gathered by industry insider Pete “Famousmortimer” Dodd, that normally has a good track record with  what his industry sources share with him. To provide an example, he was the one that first mentioned the difference in resolution of Call of Duty: Ghosts between PS4 and Xbox One.

This morning Dodd posted on NeoGaf something quite interesting:

I’m not ready to jump on the XB1 is doomed train yet. Titanfall, or really any game, can turn the fortunes, but as of now – yes, good start but valid concerns. The PS4 is above and beyond all projections and publishers are re-calibrating to this. I heard that Activision is going to make a public announcement about COD changing to the PS4 as lead platform. I have no idea if this means DLC (I assume MS locked that down for multiple years) but COD was a XBOX 360 game that happened to be on the ps3 last gen. That will be a hugely symbolic move… and don’t discount what that means to the masses.

That’s actually quite believable, especially considering how Activision seems to be very favorable to Sony’s consoles with Destiny and its very much advertised early access to the beta for PlayStation players. Activision and Electronic Arts seem to have somewhat switched allegiance between the latest generation and the new one.

The next Call of Duty was also allegedly showcased at Destination PlayStation, which definitely seems to match a possible switch.

In addition to that (and talking about interesting changes from the old generation) Dodd also mentioned that PS4 is selling more than Xbox One on the digital games from.

Also, don’t sleep on inFamous. It will be very, very, close to Titanfall XB1 this month. Sony is also doing far more digital sales than MS so far (which is a weird switch from the middle of last gen).

That’s actually quite intriguing, since we normally don’t get much information on digital download sales, it’s also not too surprising considering the rather relevant difference in installed base between the two consoles.

Of course, like all information coming from insiders and not confirmed by official announcements, we should take it with a grain of salt, and we can only wait and see if Activision’s announcement will really happen, possibly at E3.

talk about being a fanboy, who really cares, cod has been ruined by the new devs and the guys who made it, respawn must like the xbone since titanfall exclusivity is a success, and you miss the fact that this is still a rumour, all we know is cod is still the main platform on xbone as it has 1 month early dlc & dedicated servers.

i like the ps4 but it’s only good for 2 things, price & pixel counting, the system sucks for games & features & i highly doubt cod will ever be the main platform on ps4 simply because sony can’t afford to invest it being that whereas ms can splash out cash for it. sony are selling buildings such as their tokoyo birthplace closing down stores, ending their pc range, cutting jobs, they can’t afford exclusivity, if anything they’re desperately trying to maximize profits, such as now having online memberships, ps now to rent old 1 dollar games for $6 a month. etc

      • marmo7ade

You call him a fanboy, then type this drivel:

“i like the ps4 but it’s only good for 2 things, price & pixel counting, the system sucks for games & features”

        Hypocrite.

You’re also confusing Sony Electronics with Sony Computer Entertainment. Sony is a conglomerate with 4 operating segments. The segment that is selling off parts (sony electronics) is not the same segment that is responsible for playstation (sony computer entertainment). That division is doing quite well. All of those financial problems you mention are irrelevant to playstation. Sony has PLENTY of money to compete with Microsoft.

        • Faisal Munayam

they have a 1.1 billion dollar debt to recover from, the last thing they want to do is take risks with exclusivity, sure the ps4 is helping make profits but it won’t save the company hence why they are selling builds etc, you should give them your life savings if you love sony so much.

          • ThelyingBanana

What are you talking about? Sony has over 17 billion dollars in the bank.

        • jada10009

they might have money but not microsoft money lol get it str8… i have both consoles and i notice that im constantly buying games for my xbone . hmmmm i wonder why ? maybe its becuz my last 3 games with sony have been absolutely shit! and ppl have been mentioning about game companies favoring ps4? well thats becuz ppl dont know whats really going on, both companies ( ps4 / xbone ) are working together and release some titles on both consoles now like metal gear solid that has been exclusively for playstation. maybe metal gear solid wants to switch sides now ? lmao

      • Bankai

Sony Corp. and Sony Computer Entertainment are 2 separate entities, Sony Corp is losing money while SCE is making a profit. And you obviously have no idea how businesses work if you think maximizing profits is an act of desperation.

As for PS Plus being mandatory for online play, that was a move SCE needed to make in order to improve their online infrastructure. And PSNow will allow you to rent games across various PS platforms, minus PSP which is odd, which is allow them to make even more money to improve the PS4, Vita and their games.

Oh and if SCE were in such dire straights, that’d be more embarrassing for MS and Nintendo, as Sony built a much more capable console than both of those companies.

      • Bankai

“i like the ps4 but it’s only good for 2 things, price & pixel counting, the system sucks for games & features”
Yeah, I guess that’s why developers are always talking about how easy it is to get games up and running on PS4, while usually complaining about the XBO’s eSRAM. And how exactly does it’s features suck? Because last I checked everyone has praised it’s new features, while their opinions of the old ones like Crackle, Netflix and Hulu remain positive.

        • Faisal Munayam

features are nothing different from an xbox 360 thats why, apart from the fact it has a built in pvr, i agree the hardware on x1 isn’t great compared to ps4, but from a visual side of things i don’t see much difference, which makes it invalid as they are both next gen capable hardware. if i wanted the best specs i’d go for a pc.

hate to ruin your fanboy parade but i had a ps4 but sold it because graphical differences were small & the system was overly hyped, i always preferred xbox features such as snap, tv functionality & voice gestures, as well as the online features such as dedicated servers and decent chat quality which the ps4 still lacks.

i say the ps4 is more for people who prefer single player games & xbone is more for online gamers. but in the end their both good systems its just preference. but sony definetly did a good job with ps4.

” i had a ps4 but sold it because graphical differences were small & the system was overly hyped”

can you remind me what killzone multiplayer is? not the one that sony lied to us about. funny thing is that even at a lower res than titanfall it can’t keep a stable fps, drops to 38-45fps. and please fanboy don’t say it doesn’t because i have owned a ps4 & played it.

          • shinitaru

Calling me a fanboy, fanboy? Irony much? TBH, I didn’t play KZ’s MP component, I barely finished the SP. Didn’t really care for the game that much.
But please, don’t insult my intelligence by trying to tell me that you returned your PS4 just because you didn’t like the first game you played.

Killzone SP was a full 1080P, Killzone MP was 1080i which is interlaced and still more then most X1 720P games since.
You cant see a diffrence beetwen P and I its the frame rate that suffers mostly 30FPS .

u obviously dont know what ur talking about they are both running the same graphics engine so the graphics are simular … Xbox is lacking on ram ill give u that since ps4 went with a better one but when does ram count for graphics performance. might load things a bit faster but nothing noticable yet . way to early for that. in my opinion playstation sucks P/S enjoy ur lagging servers and downtime lol

          • sampson3121

            GDDR5

Provides twice the bandwidth of DDR3

            Why is Memory Bandwidth Important?
consoles with balanced amount of graphics memory and superior
memory bandwidth will almost always provide a better visual gamimg
            experience
Smooth visual gaming experience will offer highly perceivable improvements in overall system performance…compared to a DDR3. In 4 yrs, ddr3 and 720p will be obsolete, now go suck on a pickle. i think your titenfell.

          • sampson3121

the graphics are not similar, ps4 looks way better.Every gaming site acknowledges that fact..you can believe what ever you want. take a look at the new Metal Gear comparison video…BIG difference! funny, the x1 looks simular to the ps3 in the video..lol.
            http://ca.ign.com/videos/2014/02/19/metal-gear-solid-v-ground-zeroes-current-gen-vs-next-gen-graphics-comparison

          • sampson3121

lagging servers and downtime? lol, that’s not true, just another xbot attempt to try and make the ps4 look bad. it runs smooth thanks :) wow! you guys are really running out of things to say eh! sounds desperate. let’s see…we pay less for ps+, we have psn coming, can’t wait to play ps1,2 and 3 games on my ps4. we have 9 free games for the ps4 right now, with more coming all the time…can’t wait for Deep Down. and most if not all Devs love the system and say it’s better, and easier to work with. sorry xbot, not this Gen I’m afraid. nothing will change, even if you want to think the difference is small, it’s not. 50% more powerful baby! yeah :)

          • John Scafidi

Wow you really know Jack about console gaming. Take a game from the beginning a PlayStation 3s life and compare it to a game at the end of PlayStation 3s life and look at the graphical difference. I just imagine what the PlayStation 4 will look like in five years. You’re an idiot. Then go get a PC and waste all your money constantly upgrading all the parts, no one said PC didnt have better graphics.

      • nunley33

You’re delusional and still believe it’s the 360 days for ms,those days are gone. A new day has risen and the sun is shining on PlayStation and it’s fans and it’s casting a very large shadow on ms and the industry. First that headquarters was sold because they out grew it and built and even bigger one. What sony corp.does is seperate from SCEA,take a business class sometime. You may dismiss Psnow but it’s a real killer app with no answer from ms.

      • sampson3121

pixels? So how is the ddr3, 30fps,720p going…you like your last gen games?
        INFAMOUS!!!

      • Tyrone_83

The game has no dedicated servers. That was just another lie they said at the reveal just to get more preorders. Mostly EA and Respawn are regretting signing that exclusive deal for Titanfall since they sold 700k opening week and they don’t get a dime from PC sales.

    • Shane

Hate to break it to you its 2014….

Yeah, it is. 1.1TFlops didn’t make it, unfortunately. Welcome to 2014.

        • Faisal Munayam

it’s 1.3 tflops, can you say 1.3 little man? and look up the 750 nvidia card, it handles bf4 & titanfall at 1080p 60fps on pc & it’s a 1.3tflop. see little man big numbers aren’t always better. do you even know what a tflop is?

          • shinitaru

Yeah, because there is more to a machine’s performance than just the GPU.

    • Yisa Yussuf

yep, agree totally… but unfortunately… with great power….

  • Gannicus

CoD doesn’t matter what platform its on its still going to be the same old trash put out every year. The only studio I have hopes for making a good CoD is treyarch, rest doubt it

    • Matt Berial

I can agree with this. Ever since Vince and other key people/programmers left IW, IW games have not been the same at all to me. I do like Treyarch a bit more though. BO1 has been one of my favorite CoD’s specifically for it’s competitive side, i don’t know though it’s hard to explain i just liked the feeling of that game. I also loved CoD4 to death. In a weird way it reminds me of that game.

      • Gannicus

yeah black ops 1 was awesome, was the first game I ran with my new computer and it looked epic. Looked a lot better than Ghosts to

        • Joseph Lan

Black Ops 1, from 2010, was literally the LAST Call of Duty I enjoyed.

Every COD that’s released after that one has introduced a horrible new lag compensation method that countless people have complained about in the forums ever since.

          • Matt Berial

Definitely, that lag comp thing was a terrible idea.

          • someguy

black ops 2 wasnt bad..if its made by treyarch is good mechanics to me.. I hate infinity ward call of duty

        • scotmacb

Are you for real black ops 1 was the start of it all going wrong laggy as hell something not right with the aiming

          • Gannicus

ive never like cod multiplayer cus it sux. yeah I heard someat called network smoothing when it was better if you had a laggy connection cus it would throw everyone else good connections off?
As a single player mission black ops 1 was good

          • Joseph Lan

Black Ops 1 had simple lag issues (not lag compensation) due to bad matchmaking. That was a separate issue. It was still bad for some people, but still not as bad as lag compensation.

MW3 was when they started punishing people with good internet to “even the playing field” for laggy players. This was much worse on a much more consistent basis than the occasional lag we got in Black Ops 1.

      • PCS4-Box U

Thats the general sentiment, I finished MW3 but disliked it from start to finish and same goes for the mp. Got bored a couple hours in on both BO2 & Ghost. You hit the nail on the head too, BO1 had a good “feel” and I think it mostly came down to balance and map design, I enjoyed the series right up until there, i can actually pinpoint the moment they lost me.
IMO if Activision wants this franchise to continue to sell, they need to put it down for 2-3 years and bring it back to the drawing board. Start the series new, name it simply Call of Duty and drop the subtitle/numbering. I wouldn’t mind going back to WW1 or 2, beats the hell out of “the future” or “modern military” and hasn’t been done in awhile, plus its true to the roots. Stop farming the damn game to so many devs, pick 1 to care for it and stay true to it. That may even give the potential to tell a cohesive story that somebody cares about.
Oh and get rid of the cheap ass auto-aiming.

        • Matt Berial

Totally agree with what you wrote here! Excellent points. :)

    • Joseph Lan

They still haven’t fixed the god-awful, broken lag compensation mechanism that has been severely flawed since MW3 back in 2011. Until they finally address that, I’m going to always rent-before-buy with all Call of Duty games.

      • marmo7ade

It’s not broken from their point of view. The lag compensation caters to their biggest market segment – children/teenagers that don’t pay for the game or their internet connection. The largest group of COD players lives in the USA, is under the age of 18, and has wal-mart class DSL. They have to keep those people happy.

  • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

I’d prefer the Battlefield franchise please..

    • mobkingDC123 .

Battlefield was sony favored up till bf3 then microsoft made a contract with them to get dlc early with them but seeing how everyone favoring sony even bungie the ex xbox exclusive studio doing exclusive content for ps4/ ps3 they should be jumping aboard again. No fanboyism either just saying what ive been noticing lately.

      • Gannicus

who cares about BF DLC, its EA all its means is itll cost Xbox owners more money a bit sooner than everyone else

        • mobkingDC123 .

Naw ea one thing dice is another I love battlefield franchise even tho bf4 was rushed I think It would of came out great if it was given an extra year or few months to have it fully developed

          • Gannicus

Exactly its dumb EA they think there going to lose sales to CoD Ghosts… I saw on the TV adverts for 9.5/10 9/10 game of the year blah blah blah. Id of give it 5/10 and that’s being generous. BF is a multiplayer only game really the SP is more tacked on to give you someat else to do. BF owns CoD at multiplayer but classic EA rush out a game way before they should do and cus they cant go through and patch it up as they should they have to fix what they can then that makes more problems etc.

      • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

I agree. I was extremely shocked when bungie announced they were doing a game for the PS4/PS3

        • PhantomVash808

Why Bungie made a game on PS2.

          • RoadShow

Wow I didn’t know that, had to look it up.

          • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

You didn’t know about destiny? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!

          • RoadShow

What!? Of course I know about Destiny with free exclusive content on PS3 & PS4 (are they still doing the PS3 version?).

            I didn’t know that Bungie made a PS2 game.

          • Jhora Zakaryan

Destiny is a multiplatform game but it’s cleverly marketed like a PS exclusive… If Sony manages to add that fancy VR tech support into the game, that will be a great win for PS4!

          • mobkingDC123 .

no it marketed its exclusive content on sonys platform like cod is to xbox well was a good example of this is assassins creed they made a exclusive game content to ps3/ps4 this how this is.

          • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

            I didn’t know this lol

        • RoadShow

And with free exclusive content on PS3/PS4

    • Joseph Lan

None of these “partnerships” actually matter. At most, you get some timed-exclusive DLC. Battlefield will still be released on PS4, while COD will still be released on Xbox, and vice versa.

These partnerships are irrelevant for the most part (especially for me, who doesn’t care about stupid DLC), and are just marketing ploys.

      • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

I hear what you’re saying but I associate COD with kids..screaming down the headphones and running around like headless chickens lol. They seriously disappointed me with the repetitive gameplay and graphics every year.

I like the BF timed exclusives, I know it’s not important to people but I was pretty pissed when EA said Xbone would be receiving content before PS4 seeing as I was used to getting it early on 360. Just my 2 pence

  • Bankai

Sledgehammer is reportedly building the next COD with the PS4 in mind, so this is likely true. If it really is true, then I’m not surprised seeing as last I checked, COD and even Battlefield sales on PS4 outweigh sales of their XBO counterparts.

As for EA, they hurt themselves far more than they hurt Sony by restricting their potential COD-killer to one platform. I’m not like most people who seem to take that mistake as the sign as the beginning of the end of big 3rd party exclusives (which is stupid, in my opinion), but I do think EA will think twice before pulling something like that again.

    • Gannicus

what CoD killer? Titanfall, itll never be a cod killer… to many dumb gamers out there that keep accepting the trash they put out. There on a 3 year dev cycle now, how is that going to improve anything when the fundamental aspect of the game is flawed. Its all the same.

BF and CoD will coexist nothing else really has any weight behind it to kill those 2 off

      • Bankai

Being developed by former COD devs gives it Titanfall the potential to compete with, and possibly even beat COD. And then you have Destiny, which if done right, could usurp Battlefields throne, which would actually work in Activisions favor.

        • Gannicus

Titanfall is better than CoD, but the CoD fanboys keep buying that trash so CoD may always do better unless titanfall makes them see the light

        • PCS4-Box U

Destiny wont “unsurp Battlefields throne”, not because it wont be good, but because they exist as 2 differnt type of shooters. Destiny is more Borderlands-y while Battlefield is competitive shooter. I can definately make room for both! EA is Battlefields worst enemy though, they’ve done ok bringing it to the mass appeal thus far but i can’t help but feel they are trying to make it to “noob friendly/easy”.

    • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

      BF4 > Titanfall

      • Gannicus

BF > Titanfall, CoD, KZ and whatever other multiplayer FPS there is.
Titanfall > CoD ive tried get into cod multiplayer before but find it sooo boring at least titanfall with mechs and burn cards and stuff add an element of gameplay that’s different to cod and it was fun, much much better than CoD in fact

        • Bankai

BF = KZ. Battlefield is extremely overrated and doesn’t deserve a lot of the attention that it gets, its kind of like COD, but actually fun.

          • Gannicus

if KZ is so good why does no one play it? everyone who plays it says out of the millions its sold no one was onmulitplayer at the start and there still isn’t anyone on it now. Just cus KZ got prettier looking gfx don’t mean squat

          • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

            This + 2014

I bought the PS4 Killzone edition at launch, played it for a few hours and then sold Killzone the next day.

          • Gannicus

really lol. didn’t you like the SP either?

          • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

Man I tried so hard to like it. I was amazed by the graphics and gameplay but I can’t deal with futuristic shit lol

I may get it again in the future just to finish the campaign but I was struggling.

          • Gannicus

ah right hahaha. So looks like KZ only sold so much cus it was bundled up at the start with the console. Then everyone bought BF4 and had to put up with there crap for ages

          • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

Yep. It was the only bundle available so I had to get it or I would’ve missed launch.

The BF4 crap only affected me for a week. The second the Xbone got released the friday after it was working.

            Coincidence???

          • Gannicus

well should of played it on PC we were the real beta testers it was horrible, crashing every 10 minutes with out fail, sometimes youd load up and instantly crash was insane

          • PCS4-Box U

PS4 had that for the first month or so too. No major issues since though.

          • http://E-mpire.com/ Omnistalgic

MP is praised a lot in KZ, I just think futuristic stuff isn’t as worldwide appealing as military. KZ does have weird art direction. For me it’s not sci-fi enough to be cool like Halo/Destiny, but it’s also not military enough to be taken seriously like COD/BF. Kind of in a weird space, and definitely time for a franchise reboot.

But to be fair to KZ. If we’re going to say it only hit 2.1 million because of pack-ins, isn’t that exactly what MS did for TF? Yeah, reviews are better and it’s been hyped to hell, but still MS bundled the fook out of the game. We still need to check in 2-3 months down the line to see who stays on and plays the title and who gets to level 30 or so, have there full, and never turn it on again. I’m not sure it’s the COD killer just yet, but I like what I saw from it.

          • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

            BF = KZ?

What the hell have you been smoking?

          • PCS4-Box U

Disagree completely. It’s not without issues that could/should be fixed but i’m willing to forgive because of everything it does right. The games I enjoy most are the ones that allow me to create my own fun and BF does this extremely well.

      • Ritsujun

Where is our Bad Company 3, EA?

        • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

This + 2014..Bad Company 2 made me realize what I was missing. I played it for 1 day and then never touched a COD game ever again.

+ This was when Black Ops was released so was a 2 year old game

          • PCS4-Box U

Same here, BC2 made me realize what I was missing from my multiplayer games. I remember it being frustrating as hell at first after coming from MW2

  • Shajita

I read some time ago, that Sledgehammer was working on a third person Call of Duty, before they had to abandon the project to help with the development of… I think it was MW3 or Ghost, not sure which. If they continue with this project and made a third person Call of Duty game, specifically for current gen hardware… Dude, I’d be so hype, it hurts. And if it should fail, at least we got Black Ops 3 next year.

    • DJ Evans

I would be hyped to, especially if they implement a cover system and at least bullet penetration based on material. Destructible environments is a wishlist item.

I sorta get pissed that a person can hide behind a stack of wooden crates and I dump 100 rounds from an LMG and they take no damage.

  • Jecht_Sin

And then some say HW sales don’t matter.. Now they know what the big fuss was all about.

Still, given the easiness of development on PS4, even easier than on PC, it would be only natural for developers to have the PS4 as the lead platform and then to port and optimize the games on the other systems.

  • lester perdomo

    oh gawd…. another b.s article.

  • http://www.therealgamers.net/ Matt Clarmont

Digital sales should be no surprise. Ever since Sony started their Day One Digital program, a massive shift in the way Playstation gamers consume their content has occurred. We’ve been DLing our games for nearly half a decade at this point where most 360 owners either didn’t have the hard drive capacity (don’t underestimate the impact that those tiny hard drive machines had on console sales last gen) or weren’t offered day 1 digital games or both.

I am starting to get the sense that XB1 is gonna be the N64 of this gen – respectable to great sales numbers but a clear runner up nonetheless.

    • Joseph Lan

I see more of a repeat of the PS2, Xbox 1, and GameCube era.

PlayStation totally dominates globally, Xbox manages to keep it close in territories like the US. Nintendo in 3rd place.

It has the distinct feeling of deja vu, doesn’t it?

      • shinitaru

        Does kinda

  • NL37

I like to catch up with friends on cod, and it just sucks having to wait because of m$ exclusive deal

    • Jordan Jones

so you have to wait to catch up with friends on cod even though the game comes out at the same time for all platforms this doesnt even make sense

  • disqus_TCr2DiTW3m

this isn’t going to change anything about cod. they’re still gonna make the same crappy game every year. its just not the same game anymore

    • shinitaru

Yeah but it still sells a lot of copies

  • Escopablobar

I am no longer a fan of COD by any measure. Switching lead platforms would only show how opportunistic all publishers truly are. Nothing more. Such a decision is based solely on install base and profit motives. I would suggest that we all refuse to buy into the ensuing propaganda and hyperbole that will most likely laud the PS4 as “the place” to play this game. We should demand more. This franchise needs to innovate beyond improved graphical fidelity or platform favoritism as it would pertain to DLC. Don’t let them fool you with their politics into buying the same old crap on shiny new hardware regardless of the platform.

    • Stranger On The Road

The problem with larger and very popular franchises is that the users are used to them; even if you improve them in a massive way, the franchises could fail if they are very different from what the existing users are used to. Example? look at Windows 8, it is lighter and faster than Windows 7; but it looks sooooo different that users shunted it.

Destiny might be the attempt to innovate but without shaking the CoD money boat.

      • Escopablobar

There is truth to what you say. I will offer you an example where innovation in gameplay across countless iterations has kept one game somewhat relevant for almost 30 years. As much as I consider the Mario franchise the concrete block dragging Nintendo to depths devoid of creativity, I must concede that the little guy has done more than move left to right and jump for the last 29 years. Mario has changed and has consistently introduced new mechanics that are now standard across similar games. COD needs to change some how and rise above abusive reiteration.

I know that pointing and shooting comprise the bulk of what we can expect from an FPS but as $consumers$ we should force devs to innovate beyond these constraints. Titanfall has added something to the space that may not be wholly new but has been executed in a way that may make mech combat ubiquitous across all FPS franchises. I hope so.

We have given Activision a pass for too long for short term gratification. I don’t think we can leave well enough alone any longer. If you think about it, we have essentially bought and played the same game since Modern Warfare. That isn’t good enough any longer to me at least. I really hope the next one is different in some way for the sake of the genre.
        Forgive the long response

  • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

This is gonna be like what happened with Final Fantasy when N64 and PS1 came out and Square Enix announced FF was moving over to PlayStation and many gamers were very pissed off. This will be the same premise except that MS gamers will be very pissed off that their versions of COD will be worse than on PS4 since PS4 will now be the lead platform and possibly start getting all the DLC first or exclusively. the show is about to begin.

    • disqus_TCr2DiTW3m

cods a franchise people buy in hope of it turning into what it once was. sadly i don’t think it will ever be what it used to be. people are realizing it more and more and sales are only gonna drop from here on out.

      • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

can’t argue with that. I’ve been waiting a long time myself for it to finally end. let’s see what the first round of next gen players say about the next Call of Duty and whether they find it relevant, since it’ll be the first one truly geared towards next gen platforms.

    • Stranger On The Road

Or Activision could decide that it would release all DLCs on all platforms at the same time. That is an option as well!

      • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

that’s 50/50 really. what I say is they can’t afford to do that, and would rather due first dibs than play equally. when has ActiVision ever been known to play nice?

    • shinitaru

“MS gamers will be very pissed off that their versions of COD will be worse than on PS4 since PS4 will now be the lead platform”

IDK about it being worse because it was developed for the PS4, they are both x86 platforms the migration should be seamless. Only factor is the one that we are already seeing, the difference in hardware performance.

      • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

exactly my point. even they both have x86, their hardware components differ in composition so there are bound to be differences that will grow overtime now that PS4 just might become the main focus instead of them trying to improve work on Xbox One.

  • Steph

Lol whenever this insider posts positive info for sony the fanboys believe it as fact but when negative they rage that he is clueless. Gotta love fanboy logic.

COD is going downhill, I hope they step it up this year.

    • Varteras

As Xbox fanboys went into full denial mode when he first announced that COD was only 720p on X1 and tried to demonize him as being paid by Sony to spread lies. Turns out he was right and they still try to discredit him.

      • lester perdomo

it works both ways… noone ever wins.

sony lied about killzone multiplayer being 1080p … yet not a single person realized it was 720p… resolution wars are pointless …

        • Varteras

It’s not actually 720p either. It was some strange technique they used to combine several frames to get a 1080p look without having to upscale. The explanation given was weird. It’s not 1080p but it is 1080p. Regardless, they should have been more forthcoming about it. It wasn’t true native 1080p and they kept that underwraps.

I agree. Fanboy wars and resolution wars are lame. People forgot to just game and enjoy themselves. Now everyone seems to feel the need to justify what they enjoy. I just don’t like seeing people come out and bash a fanbase over something as if that fanbase is the only one guilty of shoddy logic.

Especially over an insider like Pete Dodd who has received so much flak for exposing the truth. So many falsehoods are made about him because fanboys on all sides can’t stand the truth.

          • lester perdomo

i just want games to play … i can careless …

i got both consoles ..and arguing about the resolution and weather cycle or having a few more particle effects , cracks me up …u cant see these things while youre playing the game and having fun ..

          • seedaripper1973

            ‘Couldn’t care less’ FFS!

          • lester perdomo

this isnt english class you fuktard , im in the middle of work and typing on these stupid message boards , if i spell something wrong “.i can careless “.. grammar poiice nerd patrol ..

          • seedaripper1973

It’s got nothing to do with that, Americans (all of you) say ‘could care less’ it’s wrong, it’s ‘could NOT care less’

nothing to do with spelling you moron, it’s what the phrase actually means.

          • DJ Evans

It’s method used versus outcome. A bit silly but by definition its a 1080p image produced on screen. If asked the question is this image 1080p for Killzone MP (outcome) the answer is yes it’s a 1080p image. How they produced it native, constructed or otherwise is irrelevant.

    • Stranger On The Road

Sorry, but misterXMedia insiders don’t count :-)

that being said, fanboys are fanboys; if they were logical they would have kept in mind that they bought a product and that the supplier is the one that owe them a service. Identifying with the materiel items you paid for and own is something that I never understood. Oh well.

    • truthtellerdealwithit

Your kids must be attention starved :(

Face facts chick. Dat bone is being pummeled. Don’t take it so personally.

      • shinitaru

Bet that sounded better in your head…

  • Karlo87

Be pretty huge if the next CoD is unveiled at the Sony E3 conference.
Can’t stand the game but the install base of millions is undeniable.

  • Colin Tosh

As someone who used to be a fan of CoD campaigns I have to criticize Activision for putting less and less emphasis on the single player with every installment.

    • TristanPR77

At least they have a single player. There are games with no single player at all and charge you $60

      • http://www.twitch.tv/MC_A_DOT A DOT ASANTE

        You mean Titanfall?

      • Alfonzo Manzano

My only problem with Titanfall is that is it trying so hard to tell a story, but there is no single player to actually play through it! They want you to listen to every piece of audio, but I am too busy shooting the enemy.

  • HeczTehFinezt

Its true, this guy has good sources but I’ll take it as a rumor till I see the truth.
Now, Idk if they mean DLC or some special crap like dedicated servers for PS. If this is true, I want them to stay with MS. Thats their platform. I could care less about CoD, but I trust Treyarch more because IMHO their campaign, MP and zombies are fantastic. If Activision does let PS users choose which studio, I prefer Treyarch. IW lost their touch, Sledgehammer worked on the MW3 mp and it was terrible, the worst. MS can keep those two studios. I told myself I wouldnt buy any CoD except for Treyarch’s and since Sledgehammer is in, Im skipping this one and waiting for Treyarchs CoD game. Heres how it goes, IW>Sledgehammer>Treyarch, and repeat from beginning to end so basically they each have 2 years to make a CoD game.

  • John Henry

what activision really should look into for COD . Is to create a living soldier profile boot camp as the walk through and missions as single player and mp campaigns . With each new title release, With a natural mission generating system that takes all the textures and stuff on the disc and creates random missions mp/sp/coop that are never actually the same for different people . They could create multiple missions in alot of the same areas and give promotions as reward deserves . separate groups of real people with conflicting missions one group is the good guys and one is the bad guys . both groups thinking they are the good guys . The game would for ever have re-playability and never really get boring . Command structured military campaigns . Let terrorist against commando . or world locations against each other etc…

  • Xtreme Derp

EA and Activision are businesses, they exist to make money, not make fanboys happy. Of course they’re going to lean towards the dominant gaming console.

Infamous is going to sell millions, no doubt.

  • CervantesPR

if this turns out to be true this will be my reaction

    Ouch.

  • RoadShow

Wait so Ghosts was lead platform on Xbox one and it still could only do 720p while PS4 did 1080p?

    LMAO

    • fatandsloppy

the 360 was still the lead platform

      • shinitaru

        Yeah, tht makes sense.

      • RoadShow

        Ah…but still.

    • Erik Hiebert

It’s hard to make up a difference of ~30% in hardware capability with any amount of software optimization, lol. Especially since the OpenGL API, while not quite as easy to work with, allows much more direct access to the hardware than DirectX 11 (though this much will be improved once Xbox One gets a rendition of DirectX 12).

  • Trioptical

I wonder if the digital sales front has anything to do with Remote Play functionality. It’s kinda nice to be able to access your entire library through Remote Play, but to do that, all of your games have to be digital.
Though, it’s probably more connected to digital upgrades or all of the indie games that aren’t on disc at all. Ohh, or the people who buy PS4 are more okay with this cutting edge way of buying games.

  • Yisa Yussuf

The King is Dead…. Long Live the King!!!!

    • datdude

The xbox was never the king. Not the original, not the 360, not the xbone. It has trailed it’s competitors in sales every generation, this generation is no different.

  • mikeslemonadeFromN4G

Perfect scenario for a PS4 owner. PC gamer gets the shaft and last gen owners are basically forced to upgrade.

  • Garrison Shields

Well, with Destiny being a primarily PS4 title, this isn’t quite as big a shock to me as some would think. Generation 8 sure is shaping up to be interesting, though!

  • Gabrielsp85

My eyes bleed every time Pete Dodd is use as a source

  • dranzer1

COD trash. Bf and Titanfall Ftw

    • Erik Hiebert

Titanfall is COD mixed with Crysis. It’s seriously 90% hype… 2 years down the road when we have a sequel, or maybe the one after that, the new car smell will wear off and people will see it’s not really anything new. And every year EA tries to make Battlefield more like COD to reel in the COD marketshare.

  • PatcherStation

The One will be bogged with problems until the Two is released, if it ever happens. I laughed at another article that the One could last up to 12 years. Even the PS4 has its bad points, but the One takes the wooden spoon. Microsoft will have to go with a £249.99 price point, as the PS4 will soon outsell it by 3 to 1. Looks like it’s Sony’s turn with the better third-party support.

  • John Mumpitz

Oh DODD aka shittyMortimor is a SONY SHILL, he is NOT AN insider. He gets paid and laid by SONY to spread good news about Sony and bad news about Microsoft. He is exactly The same as THUWAY.
Both Can NOT be trusted, both Are paid by Sony and only spread BULLSHIT LIES.

    • shinitaru

We will find out soon enough, wont we?

      MELTDOWN ALERT!!

    • ImonadrugcalledCharlieSheen

Based on your tirade Id say you’re a shill for Microsoft firmly in their back pocket and on the apologist payroll.

  • Michael Badstuber Richardson

Cod will not really be a difference maker moving forward I think. Ghosts was abysmal, don’t have high hopes for the next one and I think people will just get bored and move on to the next thing. Xbox has better exclusives both outnow and coming in the next year.

  • ImonadrugcalledCharlieSheen

COD leads on xbox, more closely associated with xbox, xbox is best, wank wank wank

Headline: -Call of Duty’s Lead Platform Switching to PS4-

“Cod will not really be a difference maker moving forward”

    Gotta love that xbot logic.

    • Erik Hiebert

Everyone’s jumped ship to the Titanfall band wagon, get up to speed man.

  • Robbie Yarber

Ouch, and there’s the coup de grace.

  • Tyrone_83

After years of alienating the the PS console they now want to make it their lead console. That’s like a slap in the face then saying sorry for slapping you in the face and then slapping the person in the face again. There only doing this because PS4 is selling far better than their own console.

As for the DLC Microsoft has it locked for every cod like that said at the Ghost reveal but I have a feeling that could change? I dunno. I can’t take Microsoft word for it. Could be just another lie since they got caught in a lot of them since e3 last year.

    • Erik Hiebert

I find this hard to believe somewhat, EA and Activision don’t go “Oh hey we’re gonna release stuff early for Console X because we like it better”. Microsoft and Sony pay off the publishers to have some sort of exclusive bonus for the multiplats on their console. Microsoft paid Activision to release DLC early on Xbox 360 (and One). Why would Activision choose to release somethign early for one platform over the others if they don’t get a kickback from it?

      • Tyrone_83

Aren’t the doing that right now right now and which has brought them to this big piece of news. Heck even EA admitted they shouldnt have done that titanfall deal. There just like Microsoft they don’t want to admit when there wrong.

  • torrey snow

People always think they know everything. About time Sony took over finally. Good bye xblows1

  • torrey snow

I also won’t lie and say I’ve owned an xbox1 and it sucks. I just hate Microsoft no matter if it sucks or not. If you’re an xbox fan boy don’t lie and say you’ve owned one because you really don’t know shit. I am a playstation fanboy if that’s what you want to say. I’ll never own a Microsoft piece of junk.

  • Communitylol

This is actually good because it means the kids have gone to PS4. ;)

  • Mortified Penguinn Evolved

I think exclusivity of Titanfall is actually damaging to MS. Even though there has been a boost in Xbox hardware there is clear danger to this deal. EA are already regretting the deal. In the process they managed to piss off Activision. EA should have stayed neutral in this but it is too late. Even though EA will lose money MS will suffer more because the Next Titanfall will not be an exclusive. What MS can do now is to make deals on DLCs and nothing more. EA didn’t anticipate that sales of PS4 will take such a huge leap. Not just EA but most Devs are now using PS4 as lead console. Activision will do their best to avoid going into bed with MS again until they see some drastic changes with the Xbox brand. This is another multi million money loss. EA will never make any Exclusive deals with anyone again being MS or Sony. They have seen how damaging that has been. Sony PS3 has a fan base of 70 million. I don’t know why EA decided to. take sides in this business decision. Someone should be fired. Sony own studios to make games for them and i don’t know why MS isnt doing the same thing. If they want exclusivity they should create Studios that make killer games from them. Halo and GOW are great games but their hitting fatigue. They need new games for the nextGen and not to dwell on pass success to win this Generation.

  • Tanner Estes

HA We take that COD crap and push it somewere else. Enjoy it sony, It’s not good

  • jnemesh

Wow, lots of ignorant comments here from Xbox fans (why are there even Xbox fans in the first place??? Didn’t they screw everyone with the highest failure rate of ANY consumer electronics product EVER? I don’t understand the loyalty!)

Maybe you should take a step back and LISTEN to what one of the biggest developers is saying here: “I’m not ready to jump on the XB1 is doomed train yet…good start but valid concerns.” So, he’s not ready to declare it “dead”, but the writing is on the wall here if developers are saying stuff like this! Also, moving to PS4 as the lead development platform is HUGE! It means that the game isn’t going to be crippled by the XB1′s inferior specifications, unlike COD on last gen consoles…which WERE crippled by the 360 (and Microsoft’s now infamous “Parity Clause”). Most other developers are following suit….after all, they can use basic math skills to figure out how dismally the XB1 is selling too…they only moved 1.3 million or so consoles for the entire year so far! That is PATHETIC for a new console!

Defend your soulless corporation all you want, guys. The FACT is that the Xbox One is not selling well, developers are moving to greener pastures, and the ONLY thing MS has going for their underpowered, overpriced console is “exclusive” videos that no one even cares about. RIP Xbox One. You won’t be missed.

  • Bob

To bad this article is false. CoD: Advanced Warfare just announced to keep Xbox One as main platform! haha PS fanboys that post stupid images such as the one below me on FALSE articles.

    • Raven Nafariea

If you think that will save the X1 than you are even more delusional than you sound. COD is old and tired and no one hardly wants to play that game anymore. Destiny will destroy COD:AF
