Hideo Kojima Thinks Metal Gear Solid V Won’t Be The End, but The Next Could Have a Different Theme

Legendary Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has gone on record multiple times saying that he wants to quit the historical franchise, but apparently he isn’t so ready to stop telling the adventures of Snake’s war-torn universe, as he explained in an interview on 4Gamer.

Kojima-san mentioned that the series has always depicted an era in which America was at the top of its strength, but he feels that this idea of a “strong America” is changing. In this sense, he also feels that this (Metal Gear Solid V) is not the end of his own Metal Gear Solid, but the next one may have a different theme.

This is actually quite interesting: Kojima-san could reshuffle the political and military power balance of the franchise. Since Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots is set in 2014, we might very well see a return of the franchise to the present or near future after the dip back in time withย Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes/The Phantom Pain.ย Of course this is just my speculation, but it would be definitely interesting.

He’s been saying he wants out one way or another since MGS2, yet – 14 years later and loads of sequels later – he’s STILL here delivering the goods.

Not complaining btw, just sayin’ that’s all.

Sequels, and prequels, and sequels of prequels… lol

  • stealth20k

He has wanted to quit Metal Gear for 10+ years now but without him the series would crumble.

  • Blackmaile

Thought he didnt want to be known as the Metal gear guy and he had a NEW IP in the making? Lol

  • You are flat out wrong

WW2 game with the Cobra Unit pls.

Though at this rate we’ll probably get a remade and retconned version of MGS for PS5.

Set it in the future. man! Give it some more science fiction. Clone Snakes in the future. Armies!

He can’t quit, he’s too attached. He’s in too deep. No one could write a crazy story like that but him. He is Metal Gear now. And he seems to love it too much to give it up despite what he says..

  • PrinceHeir

Yeah he’ll definitely will never quit the series unless Konami fires him(LOL ain’t gonna happen)

Oh well, I just hope the next game is a unification of Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2 MSX games all in remake glory, 1080p 60FPS and package as a one game.

That would be my final MGS for sure.

Uh, yeah, it’s happened… it actually freaking happened ๐Ÿ™
      Those Konami bastards…

It’s NOT the end. They have to get to 1995-1999 before it can possibly be over.

i would like to see Solid Snake again.

  • Fanorootbeer

Well, it should be the end. The only reason MGS is as long as it is is because Kojima’s go-to narrative device is convolution. I’d hazard a guess that the cinematic side of him is aching to move onto something new, but publisher and developer gripes keep him tethered to the IP. Each subsequent release reads like Kojima struggling to do something new with a dead horse. And at this point, the cash cow’s utters have long since been rubbed raw and are now being subjected to friction burn.

Since ‘nanomachines’ have such crazy abilities, why not make old snake back into solid snake, rather than just killing off one of the most iconic characters in video game history???

  • Sean Filkins

No more MGS after this…as much as I love the series, I’d much rather see new things from Kojima OR a Snatcher sequel/re-release.
