PlayStation Now Beta Updated to Version 2.0; 19 Games Available: List and Screenshots Leaked

The PlayStation Now beta is well underway, and a tipster that opted to remain anonymous provided us with information about the recent 2.0 update made available to beta testers.

According to the tipster the update weighed only 42 megabytes, but it made several new games available, for a total of 19. Here’s the list:

  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • WipEout HD
  • Dead Nation
  • PixelJunk Monsters
  • Shatter
  • Guacamelee!
  • Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten
  • Dead or Alive 5
  • Critter Crunch
  • Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond
  • Zeno Clash 2
  • Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon
  • Puzzle Quest: Galactrix
  • Rise of the Guardians: The Video Game
  • Dead Island
  • PAYDAY: The Heist
  • Order Up!!
  • Alien Rage
  • Real Steel

It’s interesting to see that some games were removed from the previous phase of the beta, including Killzone 3, Puppeteer, MX vs ATV: Alive, Ninja Gaiden 3 and Papo & Yo. On the other hand the first list included only nine titles. Trophy support is also active for all the new games.

Below you can see two screenshots of the game catalog, showing all the games included in the list besides Real Steel, that apparently was on a separate page. While that’s not exactly a compelling list, we have to consider that PlayStation Now is still in beta and the titles are provided for testing purposes, so hopefully stronger titles will be added between now and the actual launch this summer.

:/ I don’t even think those games take much to port

    • islan

That’s … not the point. They’re testing the servers, the network, and the experience of different types of games. Not the games themselves. All they need for the games is the servers running the right hardware and services.

    • Aaron A

They’re not ported at all. They’re running on ps3’s.

    • Bankai

They’re testing how games of different genres run on the service in order to fix any issues ahead of launch.

    • truthtellerdealwithit

      Quiet little girl.

    • PCS4-Box U

They aren’t ports at all, they are the real deal PS3 games.

  • MTM2

At the right price point, this could be a cheap and easy way to have an archive of titles from one console. Like it!

  • Brandon October

Don’t think South Africa be getting this soon 🙁 maybe in 2 years

  • RealityCheck2013

This ‘could be’ Brilliant(well if ‘EVERY’ PS1 & PS2 & PS3 game go onto PS Now, which i doubt would ever happen really) The PS4 would have an AMAZING Library of past games then & then the PS5 etc etc.

    • HarryB

This is my dream. Battlefront 2 from PS2 and Journey from PS3

    • Kingdom17

I don’t think PS1 and PS2 is overreaching, much, maybe not all of them, but wasn’t there a rumor that they were working on emulating past games, and that some might be at a higher resolution, like what can be done with pcsx2?

  • CervantesPR

DoA5 on ps now? Yeah thats not gonna work very well but lets see

    • PCS4-Box U

      You are incorrect sir.

    • TZuck

      you would be surprised.

      • PCS4-Box U

It is going to really surprise all the naysayers! i assume your in too?

        • TZuck

well those menus pictured do look awfully familiar.

          • PCS4-Box U

    • ace

You’re not totally incorrect. It’s functional but it’s not optimal.

      • PCS4-Box U

        Whats your connection speed?

        • ace

          About 19mbps to 21mbps usually.

        • Spokker

          Speed matters less than ping/latency.

    • nunley33

Doa five works exactly the same as the disc/digital versions, even going online. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. It’ll be nice to play without downloading first.

  • islan

Are there any articles covering beta-testers experiences?

    • MTM2

Beta testers were probably hit with some kind of embargo banning them from talking about it at this stage

      • PCS4-Box U

      • TZuck

The author has probably been given an impression. I mean who would leak something and then not talk about the experience.

    • PCS4-Box U

I am a beta tester but they have us under NDA. I will say that people will be very surprised with it, in a good way.

      • shinitaru

Say no more, but very encouraging 🙂

      • Jecht_Sin

But you can specify the specs of your own network connection, can’t you? Just out of curiosity. 🙂

        • PCS4-Box U

I don’t see why not as it doesnt have to do with the service… i have a solid connection as you can see and its WAY more than whats required. I don’t think i’m suppose to say anythign about their requirements though.

          • Kingdom17

But I thought they announced the requirements at a min. of 5mbs?

          • PCS4-Box U

yea, I just don’t want to risk saying too much… The NDA doesn’t really have exceptions. Just being cautious! 🙂

          • Buck Hawkins

You may of broke the NDA even talking as much as you did.

          • PCS4-Box U

I just re-read those particular sections… none of my comment violate the agreement. I didn’t mention anything about the company, product, plans, forecast, pricing, etc at any point in any of my post.
I simply stated that I am a beta tester and that people would be surprised. That doesnt really mean anything when you think about it. 🙂

  • Craig Sloan

If PS now becomes a monthly sub and you can play any listed PS games from PS3 or PS1, 2 and 3 then I’d happily pay for it. It would be like a NetFlix of games. Not really interested in renting games on an individual bases.

    • shinitaru

Definitely what I’m hoping for, or if it is rent or buy like Onlive is, I would hope that all the games that I currently own on PSN will transfer over

      • PCS4-Box U

        You’ll be happy 🙂

        • shinitaru

      • Dennis Djoenz

I’m not a beta tester but wasn’t there a screenshot some time ago that showed Free trial or something and rent? Someone also told me or I read it somewhere but not sure that we would have two options.
        Rent individually or Subscription.
All the games that I already own that I could play/get acces to via PS Now WITHOUT the subscription (imo ps+ would suffice) then it would definitely be a blessing.

        • shinitaru

That’s how it was with Onlive too, you could rent or buy individual titles but they also had a subscription service that gave you access to a large number of titles, though most of those games were older AAA’s and B list games. The new stuff was always single title purchase or rent. Not saying that PSNow will be like that since all the games will be older titles. Guess we will just have to wait and see.
I’m okay with it either way as long as I’m not expected to repurchase what I already own

    • Bruce Wayne

Umm, Netflix is a monthly fee for access to their library.

      • shinitaru

        Nobody said there wasn’t

    • Depends entirely on the price of renting for me.

  • Harerazer

It may not be a “strong lineup” to some but the variety itself is what makes it a VERY strong (test) lineup. Or would you rather we end up with SOCOM, MAG, 3 CoDs, 2 Battlefields, Killzone, and 15 other shooters? smh

    • MedBottle

I’ll take SOCOM, but the PS2 versions. And Battlefront 2, you can kindly keep the rest 🙂

      • Harerazer

Not trying to dog SOCOM, just emphasizing the shooter heavy environment we continue to feed in gaming nowadays.

    • FOLEY_is_GOD

Putting SOCOM in that line-up, what is wrong with you!? SOCOM is amazing, at least the PS2 versions were.

  • Kingdom17

I wonder if on the next beta test they will use the PS4.

  • Mike Joestar

Such a lame line-up, Guacamelee! is freaking pointless with the Street Fighter named edition coming up, Shadow of The Colossus is the only cool one, I’d preferred early PS3 games like Folklore, Africa and Heavenly Sword instead.

    • PCS4-Box U

Yea but that really isn’t the point… They are clearly trying to mix up genres to see what works and what doesn’t. It’s a free beta so I can’t really complain too much about getting access to free games ya know?

    • bigevilworldwide

Clearly you don’t get the point skippy…It’s to TEST how different genres of games are going to run and or stress is a BETA, not some early access reward

  • ace

While the lineup may not be strong as a few games would be better left out *cough* Zeno Clash *cough* it’s a good test run to see which type of games run fine and which needs more optimization. Personally i think Rise of the Guardians and Earth Defense Force, to an extent, are the best one on there.

  • tommygunzII

This is the third lineup and in my opinion the weakest so far. Last week we had a AAA multiplayer shooter that showed me any kind of game can be streamed successfully.

  • Dennis Djoenz

Don’t forget ppl this PS Now will be compatible on tv’s tablets etc. as well eventually.
Imagine just buying a Sony Bravia TV and hooking up a controller to play all sorts of PS titles without a freaking console. This could attract a lot of new customers.

    • Gamez Rule

God Of War Ascension was awesome while using PS-Now on a TV.

  • Shawn

they should have focused there efforts on the ps4 version ..

    • Andrew Gaynor

Playstation Now is for ps4… for streaming older ps3/ps2/ps1/psn titles en masse without needing to apply the man pwoer and months of work that would go in to porting each title individually… or have I misunderstood your comment?

Could really care less if it even looked any better just give me that play style and feel back.

    • bettergetdave

OMG I thought I was the only person that played this game and loved the heck out of it lol.

Heck no….. Anyone that is a die hard fan of the playstation should and better know of that game.

I know they’re doing the newer stuff first, but I hope they get their system down pat and give us those exclusive titles we still drool over…

  • Jessenia Lopez

    Puzzle Quest: Galactrix Day One

  • Jake Maze

Lmfao enjoy those fees coming you dam fools

    • superkarma

Enjoy having to pay for youtube, web browsing, and pretty much everything else.

    • shinitaru

      Try to contain your jealousy

    • You are flat out wrong

Enjoy paying for internet browser and skype, Demetre.

    • Delsin Row

i See the Xeleton show theire jealousy . doesnt matter , just play shoote games. oh wait ,,, and also ryse . LOL

  • Stranger On The Road

Wrong version of Dead of Alive 5, that one won’t accept the new goodies added to DoA5U.
Any way, any of the Beta testers leaked anything about the latency when accessing PSNow from another ISP or using a slower connection?

  • Temjin001

I’m trying to understand, are these games streamed to you while the service is active? Or is it like a backwards compatibility thing, where if I own the PS3 game on disc I place it into my PS4 and then I can play it through the streaming service ?

    • Stranger On The Road

it is a streaming service, although would they allow you to stream a game that you already own? That is something I don’t know. It makes no sense for them to allow that unless they ask you to pay for PSNow separately.

      • Temjin001

It’d be sorta cool though. My PS3 died and so I just have my PS4 with a lot of PS3 games. It’d be great if I could pay like $5 and activate those games over a streaming service. Where if I place the disc in the drive of my PS4 it would allow me to play it.

        • Yisa Yussuf

Although that would be awesome… Sony are trying to go digital with this service. Anything leaning towards using discs will be scrapped. Paying $5 to play all your ps3 games isn’t great for them, they would rather you buy another ps3. They will probably charge $5 per game on PlayStation Now.. charging $5 for you to play all your disc based games practically renders PlayStation Now obsolete

  • birdman jr

so ac2 &3 not gonna be available when ps now launched *sigh

  • DAMN….I wanna try PAYDAY

    • Michael Balchunas

Its a fun game but it doesnt impress on a visual level at all.
I think its free on ps plus right now too.

      • I have a PS4 so I guess I can’t download it

  • Mike Jones

    if they replaced DoA5 with DoA5U i would consider getting a PS4

    • Stranger On The Road

Releasing DoA5U for the PS4 would be much better, me think 🙂

And they should also add DoAX3 to it. Any way, I recall one of the developers of TeamNinja saying something like: they could add more effects and animation because of the PS4 and XB1 memory and GPGPU. I believe that he might have been referring to punch/kick effects ( )

      • TZuck

DoA on PS4 = better soft body physics… if you catch my drift.

  • otherZinc

I can’t see anyone paying a monthly fee, to play that list of games.

    • Jecht_Sin

That is the list of games for this beta testing. The previous one had other games. Once available to the public (and thus paying customers) you bet there will be many more.

    • Bankai

These are only beta games, the real games will be made available when PSNow launches fully.

  • Neil Riley

I can see this as being the introduction of a PS+ scaled service with Bronze, Silver and Gold and who knows, maybe even platinum. which would include stuff like Music Unlimited as well as PS NOW etc as part of the increased subscription.

    Probably wrong, often am.

  • GeorgeAlbanis

I like this but only if every game makes it there. PS3+PS2+PS1

  • Russell Gorall

Finally, some news about old PS3 games.

  • ragnathebloodedge

funny if you look closely you notice that Disgaea 4 says “Disc Only”. As a Disgaea fan i’m not gettin’ rid of my disc.

    • shinitaru

Dead Island says that too, not sure what that means….

We need some gameplay of this!

  • Eric Tyler

I am beta testing. Ask me anything. The games are ok but I wanted some triple AAA titles. Nothing on the list now I can play for more than 30min.

    • After the email invite, how was the actual beta install sent to you? Another email, or PSN message?

      • Eric Tyler

Another email with voucher code in it. Went to ps store on ps3 and redeemed it.

  • stephendeo

does anyone know if they’re testing Street Fighter IV on this?

    • JumpIf NotZero

Um, you’re going to be VERY disappointed when you try and stream a fighting game.

      • stephendeo

i’ve tried it on On-Live and it works out pretty well. Loads super fast too. So far with all the Playstation Now Beta their load times been

    • shinitaru

No but they have Guacamelee that is running just fine, Pretty much the same kind of mechanics.

    • shinitaru

      Dead or Alive 5 too.
