Sony Teases PS4 Release for Sandbox Zombie Survival MMO H1Z1

Sony Online Entertainment’s newly revealed Zombie Survival Sandbox MMO has only been announced officially for PC, but if you want it on PS4, the outlook is definitely looking positive.

During the unveiling livestream on GamerTalkLive Smedley was asked if the game will be a PS4 and PC launch, and we already heard his response for EverQuest Next (that was afterwards confirmed for Sony’s new console as well):

Well… it’s launching first on the PC. And we have yet to discuss any other platforms, but we are Sony.

Further in the livestream the host mentioned “We have commented on the PS4 before, and it hasn’t been decided yet…” Smedley interrupted him with a big smile on his face and said:

Well…it’s been decided.

And there you have it. While we can’t count this as an official announcement yet, it’s definitely a quite explicit tease, especially since we’ve heard it before for games that were announced for PS4 shortly afterwards. After all, they’re Sony, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Sony has no ideas, no creativity. Another zombie game. They are zombies themselves and hopefully will die soon.

    • Mus1ckFPS

LOL ^^^ This guy such wow

      • Matt Dickinson

It’s another zombie game! How can anybody be excited for that?

I mean zombies weren’t even a new thing when Resident Evil came out. The first Resident Evil.

        it’s so boring

        • Giuseppe Nelva

I really don’t like zombies, but how many open world sandbox zombie MMOS are there?

          • Mike

2 popular ones the rest dont matter.

          • Matt Dickinson

I replied to you last night, but you didn’t let my comment go through because I used a “bad word” — even though your site covers thing like zombies every day, which involves rotting corpses eating humans alive, you dislike seeing certain four letter words.

        • CervantesPR

so your saying dead rising 3 sucks?

          • Matt Dickinson

            damn right it sucks!

or at least it appears to. I haven’t played it. Why would I? It’s another boring zombie game.

        • Axe99

Not as many as there are military shooters or arcade racers. At the end of the day, there’s unprecedented choice in gaming these days – if you don’t like something, don’t play it. Much better to have fun playing something you like, than to make yourself unhappy focussing on things on the internet you don’t like. Particularly as these are games – if you have to look at stuff that depresses you on the internet, you could at least get clued in on global warming, social dysfunction or refugee issues in South Sudan, so you’re clued in with issues that matter ;).

          • Matt Dickinson

There is a lot of choice, you’re right. There’s a lot of $1,000 budget indie titles that rely on donation funding to try their hand at a few creative titles, most of which end up on mobile and Steam rather than consoles, but yeah in that way there’s choice. There’s some interesting titles there, in what used to be called homebrew. But the AAA (or AA?) market is soooo creatively bankrupt. This industry’s got nothing!

          • Axe99

Sounds like you haven’t played MGS:GZ yet, or Dishonored, or The Witcher 2, and that’s just off the top of my head. Thinking a bit more, Watch Dogs has some new ideas, Hitman: Absolution was great (sure, it wasn’t that popular, but popular and good don’t necessarily go together), DmC was very well done (again, not popular, but well done). There’s plenty of innovation going on in AAA. Yes, it’s more incremental, but that’s just common sense – no idiot’s going to through $100 million at an untried and random concept. The industry has more now than it has at any stage in its history. If you’re not enjoying it, maybe you need to read a book, or go for a jog, or something ;).

    • Bankai

Never in my life have I seen such irrational hate, misinformation and jealousy from a single source. Sony Online Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment have loads of ideas and creativity, just because they decided to try their hand at zombies doesn’t mean anything other than that they want to see what they can do with the genre.

Also, Sony isn’t going anywhere soon, nor are they zombies. You may fervently wish that they would die, but sadly (for you), they won’t.

      • Matt Dickinson

We need MORE creativity! Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft unfortunately don’t got it.

        • BlackestNight63

I want you to give us some of your original ideas that could be made into a AAA title. Go ahead.

          • Guest

No there aren’t any other ideas. The only kind of games that can be made are zombie shooters, military shooters and maybe the occasional racing game with realistic graphics that copy real cars. Other than that that’s the only kind of games that should be made. I can’t think of anything else besides that.

          • Guest

Oh and medieval RPGs. With orcs. And elves. And trolls. You guys love trolls.

    • Guest

And what game has “creativity”? because last time I checked the two biggest games to release were:
      A.) An FPS with wall-running
      B.) Action game with superpowers
Both of which consist of things we’ve already seen before

The only developers who come up with creative games are indie devs, and when those games are shown off you, and every other person who thinks they know how this industry/market works go on and on about how indie games are junk.. so honestly don’t bother spitting out nonsense like that.

      • Bankai

Actually, a lot of indie games were arcade games years ago.

      • Matt Dickinson

That’s my point. There’s so few. But the fact they have one of their major studios concentrate most of their money on another zombie game — not an interesting take on it, like a love story like last year’s “Warm Bodies” — but just another shoot-the-zombies-in-the-dark kind of game… I mean, it underlines how creatively bankrupt they are.

It’s just really disappointing. And yes, Infamous: Second Son wasn’t the height of excitement either. It was pretty similar to the first two.

      • Guest

I’ve never complained that indie games are junk. I’ve donated hundreds of dollars to Kickstarter campaigns, Indiegogos and I do plenty of Tweets and other links that help spread the word about all sorts of indie games, as well as rare old games. I have hundreds of games in my collection. I started gaming on the Atari 800. I’ve played a lot of games. I just get tired of seeing 17 billion zombie games. And military shooters. The stupid military shooters. I hate the military just because there are so many annoying military shooters in existence.

    • superkarma

Thanks for proving to us how much of a pathetic troll you truly are.

      • Guest

No I’m an orc. Everyone knows that I am an orc. Not a troll.

    • Yeah because LittleBigPlanet, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, Journey, Flow, Puppetter, The Last of Us, Gravity Rush, and such are not creative? Sony came out with more creative titles the last generation than any other developer. That is a fact based of numbers. You can argue quality all you want but that is an opinion. You are pathetic fanboy. Insecure much?

      • Matt Dickinson

Only systems I’ve bought recently are Sony’s

    • datdude

Said the poor slob waiting on Gears and Halo. Good grief.

      • Matt Dickinson

        Haven’t played those

        • PCS4-Box U

You havent played like 90% of the games that any commentor on here has mentioned…. What exactly makes you think you can say anything is uncreative and boring when you havent even played them?
Maybe in the future you should use actual experiences to form your opinions, just sayn.

          • Guest

All right, I’m sorry for complaining. I don’t care if every video game uses zombies as enemies. I can barely stand video games as it is. I know it’s what people like. I’m too old for them.

          • Guest

Too old for video games, I mean. I’m too old to enjoy anything.

          • Guest

video games are for kids. The best ones are probably for kids. They never work very well when they try to get serious.

          • PCS4-Box U

Fair enough, i can respect that.

    • Big Boss

Wow, that was the stupidest comment Ive seen in awhile

  • Bankai

SOE has some pretty good ideas for the game and I’d love to see where they go with them.

  • TheScienceEnthusiast1130

Its name is inspired by a virus? o_O

    • Sarobi

It’s inspired by H1N1 (Swine flu)

      • TheScienceEnthusiast1130

It is the most common type of “Influenza”…

    • xd

    • Now i know where you’re hiding!

      • TheScienceEnthusiast1130

        Hi. Where were you?

        • Google hangouts!

          • TheScienceEnthusiast1130

  • Well Well well.

  • superkarma

Pretty disappointed their main focus is the PC. Granted, it’s SOE, so that’s pretty much a given…but still, I wish the focus was on the PS4. Any new IP, whether it’s from Sony or Microsoft, should be focused on the next-gen consoles. At least, that’s what I think.

With that said, I’m intrigued by this game. Zombie games have always been pretty entertaining for me…which is why I’m also excited for Dying Light 🙂

Explained as a large-scale open world MMO which will feature a persistent world after a zombie apocalypse at the hands of the virus strain H1Z1…. ( Swine Flu )

“Smedley suggested the tone of the game would be along the likes of The Walking Dead, where humans are as much a menace as the zombies”

IMO H1Z1 = Dayz with a silly name BUT could well turn out to be a good game with the right team actions. Time will tell all I guess.

    • Bankai

The game is more World War Z or 28 Days Later (not games, but still) than DayZ and H1Z1 is an awesome name.

  • dranzer1

    I’ll play it in PC.

  • Solid Snake

im not really big on open online games, but i cant wait for this. just the thought of a huge open world game were zombies could attack you and 2000 other players being around, building stuff…..oh the gangs as well.

    Its going to be awesome..

on a side note, were is Planetside 2’s PS4 release date?

  • Kiyoshi

I don’t know why but I love John Smedley, he seems like such a nice, down to earth person. I can’t help but enjoy every minute I watch him when he is giving a presentation, you can tell that he loves games and a lot of the talkers for these big developers don’t care, they just want the money. *cough* that chick who is always at the Ubisoft E3 presentations telling everyone she has girl wood. I HATE that woman.

  • Cojonas

    When ?! WHEN Damnit ?!
