by on April 22, 2014 10:40 AM 40

Namco Bandai just sent in a press release announcing the launch of the PS Vita Exclusive JRPG Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment in North America this summer. The release will be solely on the PSN as a digital download title.

No further details were announced, but the press release came with the first batch of localized screenshots and artwork, also promising more news towards the end of the week.

As a fan of the series, at the moment I have a smile printed on my face that goes from ear to ear. Aincrad, here I come!

    Soo good…

  • stealth20k

PSN only is a bummer, but depending on how the game is I will still buy

    • CervantesPR

      you have a vita?

    • PhantomVash808

Cheer up man PSN only is better than no localization at all.

  • Deniz Burunlu

Hopefully it gets a UK release too

    • Anders

Tweet @BandaiNamcoUK that will show them there’s demand for the game.

  • Bankai

I knew it! The anime was too big a hit for it to not come west.

    • nonscpo

Thats true but not all big anime licensed games make it, there are still many hoping for a localization of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica game for the VITA.

      • Bankai

I know Madoka is popular, but the anime is pretty niche, so it wouldn’t be cost-effective to localize the game. On the other hand, SAO has a larger and much more vocal fanbase.

        • nonscpo

I would argue that the franchise is more niche than the anime, wasnt it one of the big ANIMES of 2011?

  • CervantesPR

Another PS Vita exclusive, the vita really is a very underrated console, with a very underated game library. ill check this one out, But tales of hearts and freedom wars for me this year for sure! i personally cant wait for tales of Hearts! and freedom wars!

    • Kingdom17

There have been so many games being released for it. Lots of localizations and new games like this, its been great the past few years for JRPGs and seems to be getting better and better :D Can’t wait for this and Tales of Hearts R

    • theodor70941

If you’ve seen the anime then you would know that the story in sword Art Online is shit and not worth your time! However Freedom Wars and Tales of Hearts R looks kinda neat.

      • Nihelus Aurenis

Your opinion =/= everyone’s opinion. Shocking, I know. Personally, I
think that your opinion is shit and that Sword Art Online is a lot of
fun. I’m very much looking forward to this game.

      • Justin Smith

Well i guess you are entitled to your own opinion, but you should stop
and think by saying something suck isn’t going to have some sort of
backfire from fans. also seeing how popular sword art online anime,
manga and especially the light novel are. in my opinion is one of the
best best stories out there connecting vol 1 to vol 14 in a very good
way. so again it’s probably not a good idea to try and down play a
series you and only you didn’t like and try to ruin other people’s
experiences before they even have the chance to experience it.

    • DisqusDis

you should check out Conception 2, I just beat it and started playing Demon Gaze. Vita has been AWESOME this year with Deception IV, Toukiden, RO ACE, etc etc.

  • nonscpo

I was happy until I realized it was digital only release. At this point anybody wanting a physical copy, my advice is to import the ASIA Version from Taiwain, that game has JAP DUB but it comes with english text.

    • manganime33

Oh cool thankyou! I was dissapointed by that too so I think I’ll buy that one haha

      • nonscpo

Yeah if you check out PLAYASIA DOT COM site you might still be able to get it, the only warning I can give you is that they havent announced if the whole game has english text or just the bulk of it.

    • Kingdom17

Yes, but still I don’t think everything is translated, I saw most is, but much still isn’t in the JAP version.

  • Mus1ckFPS

buying a vita just for this and freedom wars, can anyone recommend some other good vita games (indies are welcome)

    • manganime33

Persona 4 Golden is a must play, even if you’ve played the original

    • CervantesPR

#1 SHOULD BE KILLZONE MERCENARY,TEARAWAY. TOUKIDEN, YS memories of celceta, gravity rush. Soul Sacrifice delta as well. killzone should be your #1 choice tho you will be impressed for sure and persona although i havent finished it yet, DOA5+ and other fighters, also check out borderlands 2.

      • http://www.gunplagamer.com/ GunplaGamer

Persona 4 Golden and everything above lol Uncharted, FFXHD…Gundam Breaker if you are a Gundam or Gunpla fan :D Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds….

    • Juan

Persona 4 Golden (a must buy!!!), Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention, YS: Memories of Celceta, Akiba’s Trip (coming out this summer), Lone Survivor: Director’s Cut, FFX / X-2 HD,

    • Boerewors

Lumines… Overlooked by many, but one of the greatest games on the Vita…heck, one of the greatest all around!

    • AttentionDeficitKing

As pretty much everyone has mentioned, Persona 4 Golden (a fantastic turn-based RPG with a deep, fast-paced battle system and a phenomenal story and characters), along with Ys: Memories of Celceta (one of the better action RPGs out there – not as good as most other Ys games in my opinion, but since pretty much all Ys games are fantastic that’s not much of a downside), and Danganronpa (a visual novel with murder mystery flair and lovable/hatable characters).

Of course, this isn’t counting PSP and PS1 downloads (Final Fantasy VII, Xenogears, Trails in the Sky, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, Corpse Party…).

    • tubers

Get the largest memory card you can swallow, specially in NA.. at least try the 1 mo. of PS+.

If you don’t like the experience, there’s little regret since VITA cards aren’t that hard to sell, 2nd hand and you just “wasted” 1 mo. of Plus.

I personally recommend P4G and KZM.

  • Somebodyissilent

Man this year the Vita is killing it.

  • Rickowned

I will buy this game. If anywhere near the scale of dot hack was on the PS2, I will be happier than I have in many years

  • Kingdom17

I was just looking at this on Play Asia cool!

  • NeoTechni

“The release will be solely on the PSN as a digital download title.”

Ah. Of course there had to be a downside

  • CervantesPR
  • PhantomVash808

Glad Bandai Namco has been willing to localize their games ls lately unlike Sega.

  • Kiyoshi

    Sugoi!

  • Stranger On The Road

Was planning on importing the Taiwanese one, but will now wait for the NA release. Too bad it is an PSN/SEN release only; but too glad -that it is coming over- to be offended by minor details :-)

The PS Vita team really did work on get us a lot of JRPGs; thanks guys, most appreciated :-)

  • Anders

I think I will use an American account to get this if it’s not coming to Denmark.

  • blaackstarr

I think I picked the perfect time to get a Vita next month with the BL2 bundle. Lot’s of games being announced for it, and my favorite: rpgs.

  • Tengu Buranchi

    No physical=No buy.

  • http://www.guiltyanimesub.com/ Takanashi Rikka
